Default What a difference 150 Pounds makes

I went out to Irwindale Speedway again last night for a little practice. The DA was in the 1800-2000' Range throughout the night. The car ran really consistant with five 7.90x runs, four 7.8x runs, and one 8.00(doh).

My previous best mph before the weight reduction was 88.45mph with a 600' DA. Last night the car went 89.49mph with a DA of 1900'.

My 60' times still remain in the 1.7x range so I could not report any new best ET's. Although 60' aren't as good as I would like, having the extra weight off the front of the car deffinately helps. Before 60' times would range from 2.1-1.6. Now they are a consistant 1.7x. My only complaint about the weight reduction is the "Monster Truck" stance the car has.

I was able to get 10 runs in the first 2 1/2 hours so it gave me a chance to work on my reaction times and play around with tire pressures and launch rpm. Got my first .500 reaction time last night. Reaction times were, .514, .502, .504, .508, 1.024(wasn't expecting a 4/10 Tree), .488, .512, .500, .498, .608(doh). Irwindale speedway gives a little prize for anyone with a .500 R/T which is really cool.

Here are a couple pics from last night.

Thanks. In the back I have M/T 26X10.5X15 ET Streets, and the front are 165R15 metric radials. I will be switching to M/T 28X9X15 ET Drags in a couple weeks after the cam goes in.

2_wacko, LOL, I can't get over how much it raised the car. I wonder if somehow the stance could be hurting the 60' times.

stance shouldn't hurt the sixty foot, but you will gain MPH if you lower that front end down..

Just as Ttop said, Front Bumper Support (23lbs), Complete HVAC (50lbs), Front Sway Bar (10lbs), Back Seats (20lbs), Jack/Spare (35lbs) and a bunch of other little Misc stuff.

Back Seat Belts (5lbs), Back Speakers (2lbs), Floor mats (5lbs), All the sound deadening/padding from under the carpet (34lbs), Front Sway bar mounts (5lbs), Firewall sound deadening plastic ? (10lbs). The Centerline Rims, slicks and tires over SS 17X9's with tires (90lbs). I'm sure the Loudmouth probably saved about 30lbs over the stock catback and I have no Cats (15lbs).

All in all I think the car is about 320-330lbs lighter than stock, but add about 40-50 or so pounds worth with the 12-bolt, Denny's Driveshaft, and the heavier spohn torque arm.

Silverghost, any way to lower the front without lowering springs? Do the QA1 drag springs lower the car?

Take the bumpercover off and remove the 6 nuts holding the support/bumper on then put the cover back on.

The front bumper support is a big piece of steel that sits between the frame and the front bumper. You need to remove the front bumper cover to remove the front bumper support. There are about 12 bolts that need to come out of the bumper cover to remove it.

H.V.A.C. is Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning. You basically need to remove the dashboard or partially remove the dashboard to pull all the vents, heater core, and box. The A/C compressor, Condenser, and hoses are all removed from the engine bay. Then you need to make or buy a block off plate to cover the hole in the firewall.

MrMex, there is deffinately an over abundance of Honda garbage on some nights. Sometimes I will sit and wait at prestage for a minute or more for these guys to stage their cars correctly. On more than a dozen occations, some of these idiots decide to stay on the gas way past the 1/8 mile to try and catch up when you're on the breaks, and race to the sand trap. A few months back they had to fish a Honda out of the sand trap. He was running 11's at 65mph in the 1/8.

Hehe I used to race at Irwindale a lot. The track can hook well, but it also gets busy at night and can be annoying. I think my best 60' there was a 1.45, with lots of 1.50's. Now you need to get heads/cam in there for some real times!!!

I have a TSP 231/237 and an ASP U/D Pulley going in this sunday. Hopefully I can get the car tuned soon after the install. I probably won't get too many runs in before I get kicked out. I'm sure i'll break 7.50's with the cam and a 6-point cage will be neccessary.

The cam and UD pulley will help for sure, I'd guess around .4ths off the 1/8th mile. Remember you don't need a 6pt, just a 5pt. I used the Wolfe bolt in 6pt and left the passanger side door bar off. It's around 55#, and only takes 4 hours to install in the driveway.

I've seen some Kmembers going for cheap on ebay (around $250), those will save 30#, and I did a pin on hood that saved 30# as well (it was around $300 shipped).

Interesting point, i never really thought about a bolt in. I figure by the time I buy a weld in cage ($350) and pay someone to weld it in ($400-$500) I would be out about $750-$800. The bolt-in looks like it would be around $650 with shipping. Is there any disadvantage to a Bolt-In? Will it be NHRA legal into the 10 second range?

I've never had a tech problem with it. The only problem with the Wolfe as far as the NHRA goes, is also the thing I love about it, and that is that the door bar is lower than it should be. I've had guys mention it before but they always let me race. If it were any higher it would be a pita to daily drive, imho.

Are swing out door bars not legal for a 6 point roll bar or a 10-point roll cage?
