Default After 2 years....

I was finally able to make a pass in a car again. Oct. 16, 2002 I blew the motor in my '98Z and sold the roller and got out of it for awhile. I started on this project earlier this year and finally made it to the track yesterday. Now the current car is a '99 Z28 M6. The last car I had was an auto and I haven't raced a 6speed car since '99-'00. So my shifting is a little weak.

Anyways, setup goes like this:

ARE 382AB
T56
Spec Stage 3i
9" w/ 4.30's/spool
3400lb raceweight
28x11.5 Hoosier QTP's (I will NEVER go back to a M/T tire after trying these )
Wolfe Racecraft Rear Drag Bar(AWESOME PIECE!!)
Full suspension
QA1's all the way around
Pro Stars

that's a general area instead of going into too much detail. Car put down some lower numbers then i would have liked(455rwhp) but can't do much about that right now.

Anyways, it was a special event day at Great Lakes Dragaway in Union Grove, WI for some of the local websites. Had a great turnout and had a great time.

First pass:
11.74 @ 115mph on a 1.69 60ft.

Forgot to play with the shiftlight and get it setup properly so the shiftlight was set at the rev limit from HP Tuners. I short shifted it on this pass, but still missed 4th. Tranny needs a rebuild big time. Cause how the hell can you miss 4th!!!

Second pass:
12.49 @ 90mph on a 1.54 60ft.

Played with the QA1 settings and came out harder, but missed second went directly into 3rd and then again missed 4th!! I had used up too much clutch on the launch(still a bit afraid to just dump it) and that might have been what caused the trans to not want to shift. When i went for the 1-2, the pedal beat my foot to the floor when i hit it. Have updated slave cylinder, but no adjustable MC. Don't know how much that'd help anyways.

Third pass:
11.62 @ 118.5 on a 1.46 60ft.

This time came out the hole HARD. Carried the hoops about waist high for a bit and then took my sweet *** time shifting to make sure i hit EVERY gear and I did. Still was shortshifting. I usually go by sound when I'm playing on the street and I'm still not used to shifting closer to 7000rpm. Again, just since the last time I was at the track i blew my stock motor, kinda need a time or two to get the nerves back.

Fourth pass:
Will never know Sheered all the studs right out of the rear end The carnage in the pics look worse then it is. Rim is scraped up a bit on the inside. The tire suprisingly is ok. The front of the wheelwell just needs some very minor massaging back to original form. Atleast it's an excuse to go with thicker studs now too instead of the 7/16" ones.

Overall, still need to get a few things done and to really lean on the car. Got the nitrous kit sitting here waiting to go on as well. Had planned on having it on for this track day but just ran out of time. So the TR6's probably weren't helping at all. Don't know the DA off hand, but during the day when I made the passes it seemed OK, but was probably higher then I think. Towards the end of the night all my buddies were getting a ton faster. That and the headwind died down a bit too. Think it was probably 15mph? Anyways on to the carnage

Still had a fun day though

I'm glad to see GeorgeC's rearend lives on in another LS1. Bummer about the studs though Sweet timeslips though; I'm sure you have a bunch left with tuning and practice. Good luck!

chris showed me the video clip of it. now THAT was entertaining, i watched it like 10 times.

very lucky the car stopped right away cuz in the vid you can see how it heads for the wall in the middle instantly when he launched it.

Daum dude, that sucked I'm sure ! I always make it point to check my lugs with the torque wrench every couple of passes. If your lugs had loosened it could have been the cause. It always seems like it's the little things that bite you when you least expect it. Hope you get her fixed and back to the track for more improvement.

Hahaha, thanks guys. Still debating 1/2" or 5/8" studs now. Figure with the 6speed more is better Can't wait to get out there for some more practice. Got the dates lined up on the 22nd and the 30th of this month already. The video is pretty funny. Most were impressed I kept it off the wall. What the pics don't show is my foot getting ripped out of my sneaker when I stepped out onto that track

yep, use 5/8" studs. You'll find a lot easier to change the wheels with them instead of 1/2" with the shanks
