Tried out the TNT 150 shot tonight NEW BEST!
Took the car out to Irwindale Speedway tonight for a few test runs on the nitrous.
Only things changed on the car since the previous 1/8 mile best in signature other than the TNT Nitrous was 28X10 Goodyear slicks from 26X10.5 ET Streets, FTRA, changed the rear shocks from 30/70 to 50/50, set the front shocks at 4 instead of 1, and dropped about 6 degrees of timing from 34 to 28.
DA tonight was about 1600'.
First run was N/A and went 7.618@92.5mph with a 1.659 60' time. Found out when I went to launch the stock rev limiter was accidentally set to 6450rpm instead of 7000rpm so I hit the rev limiter on every shift and launched the car off the rev limiter rather than the two step. Needless to say it surprised the hell out of me and I ended up letting off around the 600' mark. (Shift Light set to 6700rpm, two step set to 6500) No new best E/T on this run, but a new best N/A 60' time with a bog. Good damn thing we ran N/A the first run, otherwise I would have been banging a 6450 rev limiter with a 6600 pill in the window switch.
Despite the rev limiter we decided to run the nitrous. Set the shift light at 6200rpm and put the 6200rpm pill in the window switch. Launched off the two step at 6200rpm and got a new personal best.
6.705@102.08mph with a 1.461 60' time
I expected the car to pull hard, but I didn't expect it to pull as hard as it did. I've never been planted in the seat off the line like that before. From the initial hit till the time I got back in the pits I had an evil grin from ear to ear.
Nitrous
My next two passes were dissapointing. I missed the 2nd gear shift on the next run so I aborted (8.6@52mph ). The next run after that I lined up a little crooked and it sent the car toward the wall. I decided to get back on it after I straitened it out and ran a 7.11@99mph.
I think the car has a lot more in it because we were missing about 500rpm. I think it could deffinately 60' better with the two step back at 6500. Even with the rev limit were it was the 150 shot netted 9 tenths, almost 10mph, and .2 better 60' over the N/A run.
A huge thanks to MADMARK. He has been working his *** off on this car and has done an absolute kick *** job. And also a huge thanks to Randy at Performance Associates for the kick *** tune.
Hope to be back out at Irwindale next week on the 27th. Hope to see some fellow F-Body owners out there.

WOW Ross! That is very impressive! I wanted to persuade Jenibella to run N2O, but she won't have it. She used to have another 1998 Z28 (T56) on a 150 shot with heads and cam, it went 11.2 at LACR. Besides, the NHRA classes do not allow N2O usage. We are going to be out there next Thursday (if B&M doesn't need it again as a display for guests), this weekend we are going to dyno the Z28 and tune it. Maybe we can line up both of you and get it on video? Did you video tape that run?

Thanks everyone for the kind words.
Kurtomac, the gears and 4.11's and it is the 33 spline Eaton Posi. Hopefully the posi will hold up for a bit, but if it doesn't we will go to a spool. The car is deffinately a slug on the 4.11's with the 28" tires naturally aspirated (Should run more like 4.56's), but they should put us right where we need to be on Nitrous through the 1/4 mile.
George, thanks dude! We should be out there next thursday as well. The car went back to Performance Associates last night to have the rev limiter changed to 7000rpm. We did get the runs on video. They are on a friend's MINI-DV camera. I've got to hit up the pc club or something this weekend and grab a fire-wire pci card for the computer so we can pull the video off the camera. I will post up the video as soon as we figure out how to pull it off the camera.

I guess that's racing though. If the clutch goes, we'll throw in an Iron Stage 5. If the posi goes, we'll throw in a spool.

Thanks Silverghost!
I'm very anxious to see what it will run with the rev limiter back where it should be. A few people have said they it is sometimes better to short shift on nitrous but I don't really understand why.
I've been used to shifting at 6700 so i'm sure banging the limiter on every shift thursday night wasn't helping much, not to mention shifting to 4th just before the 660'.

It is better to short-shift on nitrous because it makes much more torque and about the same horsepower at lower rpm. On my previous nitrous car, it would run the best shifting on motor at 6700 and on nitrous it would ET better shifting at 6000 rpm.
Area under the curve. With nitrous, that area is bigger at a lower rpm.
Congrats on the new best. That 1/8-mile translates to a 10.6 in the 1/4.

good runs! I definately agree with the "first time spraying" statement. I felt the same way I ever sprayed, and that was only a low 12 second pass. That's why the Nova is getting a digital 6 MSD box with a single-stage retard so the 150 hp pills can go in

I do have a question about leaded fuel if I may. Has anyone had trouble running leaded fuel with their stock oxygen sensors? I have seen many people run leaded fuel without any complaints, but i've read in other threads that it may "gunk up" the oxygen sensors over time. Only reason I ask is to save a little money. We're paying $35 for a 5gallon can of 105 unleaded ($7 a gallon) while the track has 110 leaded at the pump for $4 a gallon.
Villain281H, i've got a little running around to do this afternoon, I hope I can find the time to make it to the store so I can grab a firewire card and put that video up.

Great times! I'll be at Irwindale trying out a 150 shot for the first time this week. I am much slower than you, but it will be fun to see what my little LT1 can do with the spray. I hope for an experience as good as yours.
I look forward to seeing you run.
