Default results after converter, something wrong

Got to the track for the first time with my drag radials after i put in the converter. Before the converter, i ran a 13.27 with a 1.92 60ft at 103.8. After the converter, i ran a 13.21 with a 1.71 60ft at 101.04. My 1/8th before was a 8.51 @ 81.83 and after was a 8.35 @ 80.71. The car felt amazing off the line, but then ran like crap up top. I lost almost 3 mph somewhere . I have some bad header leaks, both sides of the block, which I had before I ran, and then one on the passenger side gasket b/w the header and y-pipe. Other than that, it felt like it was kinda sputtering up high rpms, not pulling very hard. It seems like maybe my optispark is goin out , but I'm not sure. I can't believe I could pull such a better 60ft and only pick up like .06 and lose 3 mph . Any ideas?

keep in mind, losing mph can happen when going to a higher stall convertor. The 60 foot time for the et is great, but I'd check out a few things when comparing the slips:

1-what were the temp/humidity/air conditions on both runs? Comparing good air to bad air is worth 1-4 tenths in the 1/4.

2-If your convertor swap revealed other headaches, then examine those. Might need to check your tune, you mentioned opti-spark, etc.

Hopefully you'll get the combo right and get into the 12s

The air was definetly bad last night, compared to my 13.27 night. It was perfect that night, the previous week, the best I could run was a 13.48, but then with that air, it was a 13.27. When I ran 2 nights ago, it was kinda humid and hot so I guess the air had something to do with it. But I know I need to fix the exhaust leaks and maybe replace my optispark. I never realized puttin a converter in would cause me to lose mph. I know all my friends with ls1's dropped in converters and picked up 1-2 mph, even with goin from a 2.0 60ft to a 1.7.

so right away you're looking at a 2-1/2 tenth gain based on last times with stock convertor. It should still be another tenth or 2 and I'm guessing your headaches are causing that loss. This is the rule of racing: sometimes you have to work through a few PITA things to realize the full potential of the new modification.

Good luck!

Reread your post, and I didn't gain 2 tenths from the converter. I ran that 13.27 on my stock converter on a 1.92 60 ft. Then ran a 13.21 after the new converter on a 1.71 60 ft. Sorry, my post was kinda confusing heh.

Header leaks will cause loss of power too. You need pressure in the exhaust manifold to push the gases out the ***-end. You are losing velocity and hence torque with leaks forward of the catback.

That 60' rocks BTW. You stood to gain up to 6 tenths with that. What I would give for a 60' like that.

Fix your known problems and go at it again. Also, if you can, log the car using HPTuners.

Wish I could, but its an lt1 and they don't make hptuners for lt1's . Would using autotap be able to tell me anything? I know someone who has it that would let me use it during a run.
