Thumbs up First time at the track with nitrous

I went to kennedale last night, and was really frustrated, because on wensdays the pro mod cars are there and so are the jr. dragsters, and of course bikes, well it was me and a honda that were the only TWO who were street cars so we waited like 15 min before we could race...well the first time i ran on motor after my tune was a 8.5 at 84mph which was what i was doing before the tune, well i lowered my tire pressure from 31 to 22 and i ran a 8.4 then the next pass (15 min later) i sprayed well i would let off during shifts and being cautious well i ran a 8.19 at 87.9 mph then i was sorta excited, they told me to get a helmet so i did and the next pass was a 8.0...on a 75 shot is that decent( i dont have a bottle heater or purge) should i be running faster? Tonight im upping it to a 100 shot and taking it out to the track and remember i am on street tires...and i orderd some bfg drag radials and im picking them up friday Let me know what you think

That not too bad for a 75hit. You have a wet or dry kit??

What were your 60's??

Also, get some DR's and spray between shifts and you should high 7's like you are.

And stop fartin' around 75-100pills and go ahead and put the 150's in Trust me, you'll never go back...

Whether you spray through the shifts or not it's putting more stress on the tranny. I ran a 150 on my old LT1 in sig for over a year on the stock 4L60 and still drove it to work everyday 45min each way. I never let off the button the whole 1/4 when I sprayed.

Those tranny's are junk anyway and even if you run a smaller shot I wouldn't expect much more than a year or so out of it.

Jon i can't say i agree with you about the transmissions being junk.
I have had 2 convertors in mine (both at least a 3600 rpm stall speed) and have sprayed my car for over 60,000 miles with a 150 shot wet kit with no trans issues at all. I still have not upgraded the stock 10-bolt either(yet).

Congrats on your times,i think you will really like the drag radials,i usually drive everyday on them.

Good luck,,
Dave

I know everyone has an opinion about just about everything,so here is my 2 cents worth. I can only say what i have done and that is it.

I have sprayed this stock 4l60e trans since 31000 miles, and all of that has been through the shifts, most of it has been with a fairly highstall speed convertor without 1 single problem,EVER. But that is just MY car and MY experience with spraying through the shifts.

I have a Diablo Predator programmer and have played with shift quickness and firmness along with shift points.

I now have 92000 miles on this same trans and it was rebuilt when i put the second convertor in it.
I had no issues with the trans at all, but i did not want to put it back in the car without going through it. Once torn apart it showed NO signs of being hurt at all. I was very happy to see that.

So my opinion is set the car up right and spray away.

FYI, those Pro Mods lay down some good rubber for you. Waiting 15 min is nothing. You can wait well over an hour at Etown some nights.
