Default Made A Few Passes

Ok, this was my first time to the track with my LS1. It's an '01 SS M6, with 10K on the clock. Car has NO mods (yet ), just fresh Mobil 1 5w 30.

First Run: We will not talk about, forgot to turn off Traction Control (TCS Module will be ordered very shortly)

Second Run:
R/T: 0.177
60': 2.353
1/4: 13.882
MPH: 104.85

Third Run:
R/T: -0.037
60': 2.312
1/4: 13.797
MPH: 104.67

Jumpped the gun a tad on the last run, but I am very unhappy with my 60' foots. I wont be getting slicks for a while, but I was hopping my F1's would be ok. It was very muggy tonight but that's not an excuse. Should I be getting better times?

Your times look dead on for what your car should run. Your 60' times should come down. Just go back to the track and practice. Most of the people running 2.0 sec. 60' times on street tires probably have decent track prep to cut such good times, but don't feel disheartened, as not everyone can launch well (Myself included w/ my crappy 2.2 sec. 60' on street tires).

I think you might be able to run a 13.5 sec. pass based with your trap speed and mayhaps a 2.2 sec. 60' or better. Keep practicing.

I was thinking that, but was worried about the 60'. I was reading where people where cutting 1.8's to 2.0 and that anything higher was not good. I am pleased with the trap speed and as you said hopping to get better times with a lower 60'.

Second question now....what does everyone launch at? Remember I have F1's, I was leaving at around 2,500- 3,000 with little difference between passes. To high, to low?

I wouldn't worry about your r/t and just focus on getting a good launch. If you ease out of the clutch a little more I think with the F1's you should be able to pull 2.0 60's easy.

practice, practice, practice!

I just ran for the first time last night inTulsa, OK. I've got an 01 A4 SS bone stock with street radials BFG KDW's. My times were nearly identical. 2 runs at 13.84 and 13.85. Tried shifting automatic on my own once....stupid...no traction...15.3, then forgot the stupid ASR and got a 16.18.

what about on the street TightSS? I usually take it to the track but I ran a auto trans am today said he ran 13.6 before his exhaust and I pulled almost two cars from a line and steady pull on a roll.

I know it's slower on the track what can I do to fix this?? What RPM does everyone leave the staging lights at the track?? Am I leaving high or low?

you need to to slip the clutch as they stated above...juudging from your sixty's im betting that you were drpping the clutch at 25-3000 rpms...rev it up to that and slip it out quickly in order to maintain traction...ive hear a tenth of 60 ==2 tenths on the long end so if you figure that and your an a 2.00 sixty then you could probly run low 13s

There are three ways to launching an F body that I know of. One, slip the clutch at over 2500 rpms (Some people have done this above 3500 rpms, myself included), don't let out the clutch until the tires grip. Second method, let out the clutch a little above idle, around 1200 rpms, and get outta the hole atleast 15 feet, and mash the gas, or roll into it. The idea is to modulate wheelspin this way. The last method is dumping the clutch, which could damage the tranny. You essentially dump it above 2K rpms, and the car should lurch off the line. Roll into the throttle from there.

Personally I think the stock suspension sucks ***, and you need to get some LCA's and a panhard rod. In any event, let us know of any improvements.

I was thinking suspension would come soon. I am still researching my Kooks LT's TD over the axle setup I will buy myself for xmas, and with the over the axle, probably will replace with the new BMR panhard that gives the exhaust extra room too...

Thanx for all the help, and will keep you posted.

Kidd, there were many camaro's and T/A's at the track running similar to me and worse. Same car as me in a WS6 ran a 14.1 best. Everyone acts like they (WS6's) are faster than an SS?!?

Who knows on the street. I know by timeslips exactly what the guy next to me did. Its tough to get a good start on the street. Unless you communicate in advance and are sitting at the light, it is pretty subjective to who may have left early or not. But when you have a timeslip....there is no doubt.

Sure is fun not having to worry about outside factors like someone pulling out in front of you or the law.

The really nice thing about the track is you can isolate what you're working on. Ultimately, with these f-bods, it all comes down to the launch. Especially with a A4. Not really an opp to miss a shift. Even with the A4, launch is the issue. And getting off the line better would have drastically improved my times. I was only getting 2.2 second R/T's so you are doing better than I was right there. Maybe your F1's grab a little better, maybe your not doing bad already.

again don't worry about your r/t as it doesn't factor into your ET. First work on getting the launch down...

My buddy has probably some of the cheapest all weather tires (245's even) on his f-body and pulled a 2.0 and 2.1 sixty foot on his first two drag passes ever. He drives the car like he stole it! Though I hate to admit it he is a really good driver.

Just learning how to get the car out of the hole will shoot your ET into the 13.3-4 region.
