Default 9.4 in 1/8

My friend has a 2000 forumula a4 with lt's and no cats. I have been enduring his trash talking for the past couple of years and I never came back with anything because I was pretty sure his car would beat mine. I know that a typical ls1 would beat me without any problems but after going to the track the other night and seeing his car run a 9.4 my thoughts changed. I told him that a 9.4 for an ls1 is super slow but he keeps saying that he would run a 13.0 even though his 1/8 was slow. He does not beleive me when I tell him that he will not run in the 13's with that kind of time in the 1/8. He has descent tires (265/35/18 not sure which brand) and I dont think his launch is what killed him because it barely spins the tires when he floors it but I have no idea what his 60' time is. I want all the ls1 gurus to post and tell me if 9.4 is common (which I highly doubt) or let me know if I am wrong. I will send him to this board to read the posts.

Thanks

9.4 is on the slow side. He should run 14's however. Most stock LS1s can run 13's.

Actually it would equate to a mid-high 14. My LT1 ran 9.4-9.5 in the 1/8 and ran high 14's consistently.

And that is slow for an LS1, but I have seen similar ET's from heavy cars on street tires with bad drivers.

Your friend's car, especially with LT's and no cat should be running closer to 8.4 than 9.4 in the 1/8th. Is he spinning really badly off the line and cutting 2.6-up 60' times? That's the only thing I can think of to make his car that slow. 8.8's-9.0's seem to be more common for a completely stock A4 than 9.4's and he's not even stock. Is he sandbagging trying to set you up??? Just something to think about. If that's all the car has in it then mid 14's are about all it'll do in the 1/4 mile. Maybe a low 14 if he has tremendous MPH which A4's aren't really know for.

My truck run's 9.4's! And that's a high 14 quarter for me. He sounds like a funny guy! Race him

You said he was rolling on 18" wheels which can be very heavy. Also if he has anything else in the car, say stereo and such, it will just make him that much slower and harder for him to get off of the line with stock stall and gears.

i can only squeeze like a 9.2 outta mine, that was right before my stock clutch crapped and im gotta stage 2 now. the clutch never slipped though. this was with a 2.2 60 (on kuhmo street tires), and powershifting at 6k. so im kinda in the same boat with you.

I have a friend with a 98 z28 with a flowmaster catback (yuck!). It's run a BEST of 9.01 in the 1/8. His car has 2.73 gears...

My TA ran 8.81 with NOTHING on it (stock exhaust, stock tires, stock filter).

My friend's m6 has freemods and a lid/filter/catback, ran 8.66. With a lid only (stock filter) my car ran a 8.72.

Someone else said 8.8-9.0 for stock cars and to me that sounds about right.

I have seen some 9.0ish 1/8ths turn into low 13s from ls1 m6s. (Not stock though)

There is something wrong with your friends car. My A4 ran 8.6@84 with just a lid and cutout. That was with my wife riding in the passenger seat...

I think high 8s are the norm for most stock LS1s that I have seen. But there are some that are going to be slower. My truck runs low 9s with headers and a cai. I have a friend with the same truck and the same setup and he can't get it below 9.5. My 98z with a few bolt on mods ran 8.0s

When my car was close to stock I ran a 9.0 sec. 1/8th mile at over 82mph. I ran a 13.7 sec. pass with it (At a little over 104mph). That was with a 2.2 sec. 60'. The track I go to is at somewhat of an altitude though. Your buddy is running 14's. Not exactly a drag strip terror, but then I don't know how fast your Honda is. I hope you don't ask people for 20 car length head starts.
