Default first passes in new ls1

took the car to KRP(kearney raceway park) here in nebraska. im not sure of the elevation, but the track temp was 120+

im on what appear to be the tires that came on the car from the factory, which translates to BALD 235s...

my best pass was a 13.55 @ 107.9 w/ a 2.35 60'(yikes)...i had one run where a i cut a 2.26 60' but ended up missing third

mods are in sig. i will be going back in late oct. with drag radials...

what do you gurus think? also, this was my first time to the track in a manual car

DA couldn't have been that high. What was the air temp, baro pressure, and dew point?

I could see 2550, but not 5550 unless you guys are 3000 feet above see level. Even here in humid *** Chicago, we have been seeing +2200 in 90* temps at 662 feet above see level.

Default high elevation

here is the specs on that track click here

in 100* weather I can easily see 5500 D/A bristol is at 1900 feet and d/a is always 3000+ and thats on a cool day norm is 4000+ ....id say your times look good for that track...just get some tires and some more seat time and those numbers will drop

tires are next on the list for sure...

there was also a full bolt on 98 that was running 13.5-6's and a cammed ls1 that may have ran a 12.9. otherwise all i saw out of it was consistent 13.0s...and an a4 lt1 t/a that couldnt crack 14s

It's tricky trying to launch these cars on stock tires with the manual trans. You have to get the RPMs up fairly high (4K or so) and feather the clutch out on launch - you don't want the nose of the car to drop (bog the motor) on launch. Your only going to "ride" the clutch for 2 seconds or so, so it is not as bad as it sounds. You're trying to find the balance where the car doesn't bog and the tires don't go up in smoke. It takes a bunch of practice, but sub-2.0 60' are possible on the stock rubber.

silver30th, after you get your launch down, then you can start checking other areas to improve upon. After I was finally able to launch my car pretty well, I tried different shift-points to see what would produce the best results. With the street tires, my car wanted to break the tires loose pretty bad on the 1- 2 shift. Now I'm shifting into 2nd at 5000 and running the rest of the gears up to 6000, and the ET has improved to 13.12 @ 109 - not bad for a bone-stock, full-weight convertible. The track has since written me up for not having a roll-bar, so now, in an effort to stay above the 13.49 threshhold for convertibles, I'm only running the other gears to 5500. Short-shifting like that *usually* works to slow me down enough, but the last race of the year last year I was still running 13.25 - had I run the motor up higher I might have dipped into the 12's - the track prep that day was unbelieveable!

so is shifting at 6k bout right? I've been shifting at 6200-6300 recently and noticing it will put me into the heart of my powerband when I shift. Then again, I guess my rev limiter has been raised
