Default SS3800 results... YAYE

Last time out at the 1/8th mile my best was 8.68 at 86.98mph with a 2.00 60'. Since then the only additions were 3.73's, a Yank SS3800, and a basic tune. My goal was to get at least an 8.3 so that I could consider it 12's. I ran on some pretty bald 245 Nittos on some salad shooter wheels. First run right off the highway went like this...

Tires set to 21psi. Not sure what I braked it to. I really wasn't expecting this. I kinda just punched it and it pulled hard.

60' --------- 1.64
594 --'------ 7.369
1/8th et ---- 7.87
1/8th mph--- 89.83

2nd & best run... I think I footbraked it to ~1900 and then stomped it.

60' --------- 1.58
330'--------- 4.988
594 --'------ 7.325
1/8th et ---- 7.82
1/8th mph--- 89.42

After this I tried lowering the tire pressure some to about 17 but was getting like 1.7's with that. Only made 7 runs and the rest were 7.90's with one 8.1 where I spun to a 1.85 60'. I can't believe the difference the converter made. Pulling 60's like that felt so good... especially when I wasn't expecting it!

I lined up with a nice 67 Camaro a few times that had an LS1 in it. He was running consistent 7.70's. Good races. Great day.

What does this convert to in the 1/4?

the general calculation is 1/8th ET times 1.54= 1/4 mile ET. a 7.82 1/8 mile should figure out to about a 12.20 1/4 ET. im doing the same mods this winter myself. 3.73s and the ss3800. i only have a lid and cat back...so if i run high 7s in the 1/8th ill be crazy happy. great times you got there bro.

Thanks alot. Yea, you'll supremely satisfied with those 2 mods. I had just lid and catback beginning of summer and 2.73's and ran 9.0. Added headers and ory and got the 8.68 with consistent 8.8's. And now this. Hopefully I'll do some suspension stuff this winter to get consistently low 60's.

My experience with Nittos is that they hooked just as well at 19 psi as they did at 25 psi only difference being MPH was higher at 25 psi so that's how I ran them.

..... 'generally-speaking', NHRA factors 1/8-mile racing at .64 of 1/4-mile
(a well set-up car running 10.00 is factored-to 6.40 in 660' )
so 7.82 div/by .64 = 12.21-ish.....

i think since the LS1's have some much top end the 1/4 pass might be a bit quicker like a 12.1 or even a 12 flat!

Thanks for the help. This converter really amazes me. I'm glad I went with the 3.73's too. They're not so bad on the highway if you actually go the speed limit . Hopefully for next year I can get an LS6 intake, p&p throttle body, couple suspension mods, actually go to a 1/4 mile and hunt down 11's!

skip the LS6 intake and P&P TB and go with the fast 90/90 and NW TB!

NICE gains!
I am getting a new converter for 2008, it looks like the SS3800 would work for me.

I don't really have much to compare this converter too except my old 2800 I had behind a SBC with a th350, and this is obviously a different game. But I have no reservations driving it everyday. I'm in college so I have to buzz around town, go 15miles each way in semi-stop and go traffic to work, haul friends etc and I think its a great combination of being able to putt around and move out.

Plus I think I saw a video on YouTube of your car at idle. Sounds sick!

I can get the car into the high 1.6s with the MW3500, but I'd like to knock another 10th off of that. I had a YANK in my old car, it was a great converter.

There is a vid or 2 on youtube of my car, Thanks!

I'm not sure about LT1's since they make power in different places than LS1 but I have no reservations driving it on the street. You can go slow with it and cruise to the grocery store no problems. It does get louder in the car since its revving higher, but alot of that just comes with the territory of longtube/loudmouth.

I say do it!

to my knowledge LT1's are happy with 3000-3200 stalls for DD'ing, since the peak torque on a stock motor is 2500 rpm, compared to an LS1's 4000 rpm.
