wth is wrong?!
So, I sucked worse than you and STILL suck at stragiht-line racing. Now that cool weather is here, I have bought 17" 2002 WS6 Speedlines that are lighter and will put MT 275/40R/17 Street Drag radials on them. This time, I'll line up behind some big slcik cars and burn the MT's until they damn near catch fire. Then, I'll easily hit 11's. Plus, I'll be going out with new American Racing headers with 1 7/8" primaries (future D-1SC/8-rib).
I'm hoping the diffence between my MAC mids and the AHR's will drastically increase my MPH. Right now, the power levels at 6300-6500 rpm's. I know my H/C Mamo combo will make better power in the upper rpm band. I have too much 'down low' power that breaks the tires loose too easy. Hopefully, with the ARH's, I'll push the power up a little farther and harness some power I haven't been able to use.
You don't suck. You're like me ... just learning what your best combo is. You'll reel in the times your car is capable of.
I wouldn't stall the car as high as you are doing. 900-1100 rpm should be plenty as you want the converter to "flash" to help weight move from front to back as you launch instead of "pushing" like what will happen if you stall too high.
Roll into the throttle on street tires (non-drag radials). I've gotten numerous 2.0 60 foots from my stock 245/50/16's at about 25-27 psi.
Don't do a huge burnout. I go around the water, get lined up in the tracks in front of me, stall her up to about 1000 rpm then release the brake and drop the hammer hard with the shifter in 1st. The tires will spin a good amount to clean off any water or debris and will clean the tires.
Practice always helps, and you'll find mid 13s with time.

You don't have to really light up street tires, but are you doing a small burnout? (you should do a small one AFTER the wetbox to clean off the tires and warm them up a bit) Also, your sig says the car is stock, is all the maintenance up to par?

as far as the ET thing, practice. play with air pressures a bit(up in front and down in back) and play with different launches to see what the car really wants.
you can get an idea of how t get your car rolling from the suggestions of others, but seat time is the only way you will ever perfect it.
good luck!
little things like lids, a ram air set up(slp/fast toys.....there are a bunch of them), and exhaust work will all lend to air flow which is the key element in improving gas mileage.
the biggest place to get some gas mileage and power is a good tune. get your self a copy of HPTuners and clean up the factory settings. GM programmed our cars to run rich as hell with really lame timing tables.
where in jersey do you drive to? there are a "few" members on the NJFBOA that would be happy to meet you and let you join in on our antics when you are in town.
