I love third gens
On my old motor it went 10.4@136 spinning on a smaller shot.
If I decide to go FI it better do better then that on shake downs...
Lots of options when it comes to parts and lots of room even with a BBC.

Wow lots of replies since I have checked it, I have been swamped with school. Thanks for the info guys but the more I look at it I think I am going to go with either a 3rd or 4th and drop the Monte ideal "the car wasn't so solid". Again thanks for your inputs and I will be considering them when I make a purchase.

Im a bit torn between a 3rd and 4th gen for my drag car project. I really miss my 3rd gens and when it comes to pulling the motor apart or removing the motor the 3rd gen has alot more space. Im leaning more to the 3rd gen due to the ease of finding replacement parts if needed(junkyard are full of 3rd gens out here) and the fact that they are a bit lighter, now I just have to find a straight third gen...

I say the G-body is the way, full frame with factory 4-link. BMR has all the suspension parts you need and you cam make the very light if you get to cutting. My friend had one and I build a poor boy bracket car in high school with one. His weight in at 2,540 with him in it, that was with no fiber glass body panel. The car also had all the factory glass in it. It had no real aftermarket suspension parts on it and still hooked. He ran 28"-10.5 M/T. He would drive around the water box, no burnout and pull the front left tire about a foot. It ran 11.0s with a stock head, 12.5:1, Holley 750. Plus they look better that the ole mullet camaro.

Thirdgens are lighter than 4th gens by several hundred lbs and there are cars in the 7's on torque arm suspension. G-bodies are nice and there are a million parts for them, but you are fighting a losing battle with weight. Even if you glass it all up and tin the interior, you would be 200 or so lbs behind a similarly prepped 3rd gen.
