Default External Kill Switch???

I was told last night that if you have your battery relocated you have to have an external kill switch to race at a NHRA sanctioned track? What's the deal here? And if this is true, what's the best way to do this, my battery is in the hatch. TIA.

yes, battery in the trunk(hatch) requires a kill switch. if im not mistaken, the rules require a push/pull switch. but people use twist on/off all the time. so dont quote me on that rule. i have a push/pull on my car.

yup, gotta have a external kill switch, and make sure it kills the car when it's pushed off. some guys do use the twist switch and they pass it if OFF is clearly marked. I believe IHRA is the same way for the switch.

Buy one, it's way cheaper for the high current setup. Push for off or turn for off are both acceptable.

With our cars you will need to run one line from the battery to the switch. You will then need to run a line from the alternator to the battery side of the switch and another line from the disconnect side of the switch to the fuse box up front and the starter. That will make sure that you've got a full disconnect.

The Summit Battery box fits in the wheel well fine. Just need to put a 4" block underneath it to support it. The Flaming River or Moroso switches will work fine. Use a bunch of 2ga welding cable to run all of your electrical lines. I used some audio terminals for the ground and ring terminals for the wire. I have a couple pictures that might help you out.

Thanks for the pics. Do you have any of the switch on the outside of the car? I'm trying to figure out how I want to set it up externally.

My battery is already in the hatch in a Moroso Battery Box and has a Disconnect Switch there, but I know it won't shut the car off because it's not disconnecting the alternator. Right now there is one main cable that runs from the battery to the front of the car, am I going to have to run another one? (I'm guessing so) Thanks again.

Yes, one will be from the disconnect side to the fuse box and starter. The other will be from the alternator to the battery side of the switch. I don't have any pics of the switch on the outside. Mine is a simple pushrod located in the upper right corner of the license plate area.

Thanks again Derty, your information is greatly appreciated. Right now my power cable runs inside the car, but after seeing those pics I'm thinking about re-routing it outside similar to what you did. Might as well since I have to run a 2nd wire.

Trick switch mount, my buddies car, his switch is mounted behind the plate on his WS6. Remove plate, and viola. Will try getting pics later.
