Default What gear are you in going through the traps?

I have a stock geared SS 6-spd. Everytime I race my car at the track I end up having to shift into fourth like 10 yards away from the traps, which in turn slows me down some. I ran 13.4 at 109. I think if I didn't have to shift last minute that I could run alot better. Those of you with 6-spds and stocks gears, do you leave it in 3rd?

If you are that close I'd just run it thru in 3rd, if the room is there on the LS1 limiter. I felt the same with the stock gears but had to shift due to stock limiter. A slightly taller tire(1/2") would help you stay in 3rd, more gear would help you shift sooner.

When my car was stock, I always needed to shift 4th... not sure whats going on there. As a spd car you should have 3.42 gears... should need 4th.

You should be in the 1:1 gear at the traps... do you have taller then stock tires because of your 18" wheels? Cause that would explain it as well.
