Default Replace rear or trans first?

Just wondering what you all think I should replace first, my 10 bolt or my 4L60E? I'm building the car to 650+ RWHP but I'm not sure what route I should take. I'm swapping the 10 bolt for a Midwest 9" and the trans for a 4L80E. Anyone have any input??

Trans. Your rear is still functional? Won't help to replace the rear if the trans you have is losing the power.

I would say trans too... Just stay away from a sticky tire and your rear will be fin for the time being... Your trans on the other hand might go right away with the 650+ rwhp...

Well, like I said, I'm building the car up first to handle the power. Right now I still have just bolt ons. It seems like the rears die first over the transmission.

In theroy it doesn't matter, BOTH will need to be changed.

BUT considering the question, the trans will need to be changed 1st, and when you do, a 4L80e at a minimum or Th400 if you dont want the O/D.

the 4LJUNKIE will not live beyond 400 rwhp in stock form, I know, I have had 2 burn up, there are some companies that build higher hp units, but they are a CRAP shoot.

Your at a cross roads, dont waste money that you cannot afford to lose.

Thats why I decided to stop running LTX and move up to LS1's

here is the car I used to own, running 12 flat on the 10 bolt and no suspenion, on a junk stall and 3.23 gears. I did do a rear and since I didnt increase the stall or gearing, the extra weight slowed the car down to 12.40's

My trans did not last the break-in period on my stroker. It died at 500 miles. The rear was still functional when I took it out this past march. It held up to several 1.60 60' launches before I added the 9".

A 6 speed car can tear up a rear end pretty quick, but a 10 bolt should definitely outlast a 4L60e in most cases.

i would save up extra money and do both at once and get a ncie driveshaft while your at it. personally for a rear end i recommend burkhart chassis' rear end.

As long as he stays above 1.70 60 foots thats correct, he can get away with it for a while but put 100 passes on it will whine line the rest and eventually fail.
