any of you guys using these seats w/o the cage?? i read on the kirky site that if you use the mounting brkts that you need the cage but I'm not getting into the cage thing just yet so wanted to see if I was going to be able to use these w/o the cage. I'm about to sell my leather seats so any advice before i do would be good.
also any of you have pic of them on the car with and w/o the cover to see if the cover is even worth getting?

I wouldn't use any alum racing seat without a cage. You need to support the back of the seat with any alum racing seat... running them without the cage supporting the seat is asking to get hurt.
I wouldn't run them without the cover, the cover makes them very comfortable, without the cover I don't think that they'll look as good, and certainly aren't gonna be as comfortable. The cover only weigh's about 2 lbs, hell I still have the cover on my passenger's seat that has the bottle mounted in it. Plus it looks more like a car that way.

Anyone else agree with not using these w/o a cage? I'm looking to drop alot of weight out without cuttin up the car and figured if i had just the one kirkley as the only seat in there on track nights i could loose a good ammount. I was going to go with the madman bracket and all that... Not a good idea w/o a cage? New setup should be low 12's high 11's and i dont wanna cage it just yet....

Mount the seat without the back support and sit in it, you'll see.
fwiw with a cage you don't need the seat brackets, if you're 6'0 or taller, you can just mount it on the back to seat studs that holds the factory seat in, and then just put the back brace up to the seat.
Simple, easy, as light as possible, and the important thing, safe.

talking about cages which on did you get (wolf or did your fab shop make one for you) chromoly or reg?? looks like i might be spending the extra bucks on one..

You want to run in the 9's and not have a cage? That's got a be a joke right? You're REQUIRED a cage to go that fast, there is no "wanting one" about it. You sir should be up for the Darwin award!

btw i know you need a cage to run 9's but since my car has never seen anythign close to that although it has the set up to do it, that is why i didnt want the cage..

Jaz makes a nice aluminum seat that fits our car a little better than the kirkey. Madman turned me onto them. I will get some next year.
I sat in some 17 inch Kirkeys back when I was 320lbs and a 44 inch waist. I was snug but fit fine.
In a rollover situation you WANT the seat tight so you cant get beaten up in the seat.
I hate to sound like a Mom, but cars have gotten SO fast in the last 6 years that guys have taken safety for granted. Even in my car running high 10's the energy stored in that car running 124mph weighing 3700 lbs is INCREDIBLE. Imagine how long it would flip if it started rolling, or how long it would take to stop if it was on fire.
Ok Im off my soapbox.

You're right, that's why SFI 25.2 can't weigh more then 3200 lbs, safety stuff.
I'm waiting to see what the 25.3 is gonna look like, 3600 lbs and is good to 6.50, imagine what the structure of that is gonna look like, and I thought 25.2 was alot LOL.

I just received my kirkys yesterday, I get everything from summit next day because their close to me I like that. Anyways I put the cover on and sat on it and it feels good nice and snug. Their actually not bad they feel comfortable thanks guys for advice I was going to go with the 18" wide but after u guys said not to I went with your advice and it worked out great. Now I'm just waiting the cage only thing that sucks is that I need to take the damn dash again ;(..
Btw I got the 8 pt. Wolf cage and was wondering if u guys had to chop the dash alittle so they clear the cage?

you dont have to take out the dash for a 8pt your thinking of a 10pt with the over head bars that go down by the dash. A 8pt roll bar its the same as 6pt but just has the 2 diagnal bars that go from the main hoop to the drive shaft tunnel right behind the rear seats.
