Doug Kallita...fastest pass of all time
I know its not LS1 related...but DAMN COOL nonetheless
Doug Kallita was within thousandths of a second from backing it up...but unfortunately...its only a track record...not the official ET record. but he did get the official trap speed record
60ft-0.835 sec
330ft-2.116
660ft-3.008 @ 281.83mph
1,000ft-3.766
1,320ft-4.428 @ 333.00
that is freaking moving

Outstanding stuff!
What a great race. I watched it last night. It was cool to see people wearing coats on the starting line. :p Great weather for records to falls!

at 281 at the 1/8 mile...that leaves 1.6 seconds (if it weren't accelerating anymore to finish the 1/4 mile)
that don't leave a heck of alot of time to add mph while fighting ungodly wind resistance. The fact that they add 50 more is incredible

That is ungodly. I'm not sure if there's any merit to it, but I've been told that the technology is there for top fuel guys to run high 3's at over 350mph and that the NHRA won't allow it. They keep tight restrictions against that due to the fact that the g-forces are very unhealthy at that level.
Do you think there's any validity to that?
On a side note, could you imagine lining up next to something that pulls a .835 60'.

they could certainly go quicker and faster with less restrictive rules, but its not in the interest of the drivers (safety) or the fans (oil cleanups after every pass).
they are limited on engine size (only 500ci), nitro fuel mixture, wing and body dimensions/angles, zoomie angles, etc as well as having the blower of choice banned from competition

Re: Doug Kallita...fastest pass of all time
NHRA pulled some nitro out of the fuel due to engine explosions (they now run 90% NM)...but they upped the boost and changed the tune and are right where they left off...
Kalitta's crew chief said thier 330 foot performance wasn't up to par...they thought they could improve that aspect of the run and possibly a 4.40...maybe a 4.39...that would've been SICK!!!

It's crazy to think they get up to 333 MPH in just 1/4 mile. It's amazing. I wonder at what point it goes from being a fun ride to a painful one?
