While you have the dash out, there are some other things you can remove to make it worthwhile. That thick rubber-like mat that forms to the firewall. You can cut it into sections and remove it while the dash is out. It is pretty thick and heavy iirc. Your car will be louder and a little hotter when you are done, but it will be lighter too, lol.

The 98+ ones are a lot easier than the earlier ones. I've pulled a few of them out and it isn't that bad it is just time consuming. There's a lot of other things you can pull out of the car at the same time. The black mat that attaches to the firewall, AC ducting, and box if you're looking to remove that stuff, and lots of extra wiring if you want to start trimming.

I did mine last weekend, really wasnt that bad. I did not take the dash all the way out. Only pulled it back about 18 or 24 inches.

The only real pain was the one screw that holds the lower left of the bracket, it comes in from the opposite side, once I found it(actually INSIDE the duct work) I reached behind the dash and pulled it, bag and bracket came out the bottom near the glovebox. Me and a buddy did it in about 2.5 hours.

Bag and bracket was 16lbs.

On mine the VATS module is mounted ON the airbag bracket, wont start without it, ask me how I know.

Remove A pillar covers
Remove door sill plastic deals that run under dash and along side of seats
Remove center console
Remove speedo cluster
Remove upper dash pad
Radio
Glove box
Screws around glovebox
unclip harness clips stick through behind glovebox

Now look to the left of the glove box, down low, you will see a screw coming in from the other side, this is the fun one. Its mate is directly above it, but its easy. These 2 screws hold the left side of the bracket.

drivers lower cover under steering column
drop steering column down
2 bolts directly behind center console under dash
Bolts on top of dash
Nut on each side near door opening 1/2 way up from floor, will have ground wires attached, PUT THEM BACK WHEN DONE.

Dash should be loose, take the hard screw out first, pull the dash back far enough to reach behind it, the screw is down inside the ductwork. I used a 1/4 inch air wratchet with a 4 inch extension.

remove all airbag and bracket screws, bag and bracket will come out the bottom.

DONE, reassemble.

DOnt forget to pull all the insulation out from the firewall behind the dash.

^ The wiring is not fun at all. I pulled the whole interior harness out of the car.

I did one on the doors too a while ago that has a few others things you can take out at the same time. Ignore the spam.

Thanks, Beaflag what did you keep inside as far as wiring goes? All I care about using is all the brake lights, reverse lights, turn signals and headlights as well as the power windows. Do you have a pic of what your wiring looks like when you finished? Also out of all the little black boxes behind there what could you remove?

I removed all the factory harnesses and only left "pig tails" on the things I want. I'm relocating the battery to the rear as well, then I'm running a painless style harness.

I haven't finished yet, but I've removed pretty much everything other than what is necessary, AC, power windows, locks, and the amenity lights. All I have a picture of is a giant box of wires. I have some pictures when I was working on it in the 93 thread in my sig.
