24ft trailer question
Good to hear, that's what I was thinking, build a diamond plate box on the front and put the generator in there, and it would make it easier to fuel up the tank for it, less noise in the trailer too.

FYI...gooseneck trailers are rated in total length, not floor space like tag trailers. My 36' trailer is 28' cargo + 8' over the bed (additional storage space)..

I know it sounds a little off, but a couple racers I met at pinks allout this year that were pretty good guys (ram racers, I'm sure the jersey to MIR crowd know alot of them) use their trailers like that, and if ya figure a hotel at 100 to 150 a night, if ya stay over 10 times a season, that's a grand a year saved.
Have to do the ghetto shower the next morning, but honestly if you're gonna be working on a car all day you're gonna be nasty anyway.
a grand a year and that's a good it of $ in 10 years, enough to pay for alot of the trailer.
That setup you have Jim is nice, I've seen those before and are a decent setup. I wasn't sure if a car would fit, but it's good to hear that one does.
Fireball I wasn't aware of how they sized those trailers. sounds like the 5th wheel isn't that bad to remove, which is something I'd be doing more often then I want to think about.
I'd love to just go with a 36 footer with living qtr's, but I haven't got that kind of $ to spend, I'm not gonna lie. My budget for the trailer when I buy it, will be about 15 grand give or take depending on what I can put down, what I get for my open car, $ situation etc.etc. But,. I don't think for a minute what I want to do will be a penny under 15

You should see the looks I get at the track when I unload the car. People are amazed that it fit. I'm not gonna lie, it's tight. If I ever have to get a chute or sissy sticks I'm phucked. I made the dealer let me load it in before I bought it though.
Just food for thought. A buddy of mine picked up a used 5th wheel version of mine--like a 2004 model for 21K. He hauls around his Terminator in his.

I'm about ready to go back to a 1500 pickup or small SUV and an open trailer, if you have some friends helping you out it isnt bad but if you do everything by yourself adding all the extra work to go racing sometimes takes the fun out of it..
As others have stated, you can get alot of trailer for 15 K. Have you tried looking at trailers on racingjunk.com ? If not, you may want to shop around on there and see what is available.
I have a 38 ft gooseneck, 1 ft. extra height, 30 feet of floor space, finished inside with lights, generator, overhead cabinet, fridge, etc, etc, As KP mentioned it can be a p.i.t.a. to get everything loaded and kept maintained but, it's sure nice to have everything you need all in your trailer.
As for the truck and the hitch issues, you may also look at getting a fold away ball (pops up when you need it and folds flat when not in use) <--- works great.
Anyway, shop around and look at what everyone else is using and then make your choices based on what you want to handle.

So far I've been fine with an open car, but I'm at the point that I'm loading a ton of crap in and out of the truckif I go somewhere and have to stay overnight the hotel's are $, plus I don't like leaving the car unattended in a hotel parking lot, that I have always hated, and if I leave it at the track I feel better as there's always a TON of better cars there to steal then mine LOL, but that'st still one I don't really like to do, if I was staying there with it, I'd feel alot better. The ATV, that I want for track use for 2 reasons, #1 if I wanted to tow the car to the line, I could. #2, after going to a couple places and pitting down at the scoreboard, I have grown tired of having to walk about 10 miles over the course of the day or 2 that I'm there, pinks allout @ etown, I was pitted less then 100 yards from where Scott Kalitta died, and I can tell you, everytime I wanted to go watch cars, hell do anything I was walking a mile. That, got old real quick when it's 90 degrees out and you're in fire pants, the ATV would have been great to have there.
Plus it would be nice to have someone be able to go to the line with a support veichle, with the air tank, etc.etc just in case. Sport quad with a rack built on the front of it, or a small 80's 200 size utility would suit that just fine.
I figured about 15 including the generator fwiw. I've seen alot of nice stuff on racingjunk, and believe me I'll be shopping on there once I figure out what I want exactly.
The truck and maintenance on that, I drive that every day, so that's just life in that case.... gotta drive something and the maintenance on that isn't any worse then anything else. Oil changes are every 7500 miles, over double what a car is, yeah it's 12 qts, but if you're putting 6 in a gas job every 3000 and a filter I'm ahead in that department. Plus the diesel is a good 30 to 40% better on fuel, so even the buck a gallon more for diesel doesn't really matter in the overall picture.
Trailer maintenance is a once a year thing to me, every spring ya just pull the wheels, check the brakes, grease the bearings, go over the wiring, change the oil on the generator, air filter on that, air filter on teh little compressor, check the lights, grease the hitch and all the other moving parts, and that's about it. One saturday to check it all, one more if the brakes need to be done/tires changed and that's it, that isn't a big deal to me really. It's a cost, but better then having it brake down, or an accident because the brakes failed.
I have checked out www.TexasTrailerMan.com.
He's in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and his crew puts together some beautiful rigs. Using the options on his web site you can put together just what you want. He takes a down payment and if it not in stock will have what you need in thirty days or less.
BS machine does come up with some good ones
Where I'm from that's called a ghetto shower LOL. BUt yeah, better that then nothing at all and honestly, I'd do that to save 100 bucks knowing I'm gonna be covered in grease, fuel and dirt in no time.
