how to remove sound deadening material and...
Putting in ozite carpet is a huge weight saver. Can be done to look good, if your back seat is in and ya run the floormats it looks totally stock, and that's about 40 lbs lighter then the stock carpet, 35 at least. All of the ozite for the entire car is about 5 lbs for a referance... I've done a few cars now and can safely say that is accurate.
You need about 5 yards to do the whole car, it's 80 inches wide so you can do it with one piece, if you want to remove the center console you can and it will look good because of the carpet (assuming your airbag stuff and whatnot isn't there anymore)
I use 3m spray adhesive on the floor, stretch the carpet first then lift it up, spray the carpet and the floorboard and glue it down. DAP wood contact cement under your feet is a good idea too. The stuff does wear quick, but if you leave your floormat in it's not that bad.
With the glue it will cost ya about 85 bucks, take your time, stretch and stretch, and when you think you're done stretch some more, seam it good and it will look very nice, and weigh about nothing. Does nothing in the sound deadening department too, I'l warn ya of that, so plan on the car getting louder, but in the weight reduction world it's great.
Just remember, stretch it, and then when you don't think it can stretch anymore stretch it some more.
Lay it in the car and put some weights/books whatever on it, that will help. Leave it that way overnight, then you'll have alot easier time getting started. 2 people make it really easy... but it can definately be done alone.
