Default how to remove sound deadening material and...

im ripping out the interior to get my cage put in and im trying to figure out if there is an easy way of removing all the sound deadening material under the carpet and dash, and is there anything else under the dash that i can remove to lose some weight other than the hvac, heater core, and air bags? thanks for the help

i dont have any pics or a working camera at the moment but if u look at the dash grounding points on on driver and passenger side of the dash, u will see part of the dash brace. also the 2 bolts at the very front of the center console is where the center console bolts to the dash brace. dash brace is also what the passenger air bag bolts to. so removing the dash brace would also be removing the passenger air bag

if you buy the carpet from autozone you can do your whole car for about 40 bucks.. it will be lighter and new carpet..

saves quite a bit of weight..

there is a lot of weight in the dash.. just depends on if youw nat to sacrifice it or not.

That rubber mat on the firewall is heavy. Real pita to get the whole thing out, but I bet it's a good 10 lbs.

I wouldn't take the dash brace out, the thing is gonna be floppy as hell with that gone IMO.

The carpet deadending peels off pretty easy, nothing horrible. I might put something it's place hwere my feet are, it gets a little hot there. This is for me and the wifey, there is def a compromise.

Yeah, a droopy dash is no good.

Your feet are warm because the heat shields are off. Deal with I say

The sound deadening stuff, if you do it on a hot summer day comes off alot easier, carpet out and laid out on the driveway in the sun for a couple hours, and it will come off alot easier.

Remove the sound deadening that's on the trunk floor too, that crap is heavy, you'll see when you start peeling it off.

I just removed my front plastic sound deadening. I just used a box cutter, and cut it in pieces as i went along. Takes a good 30 minutes. The passenger side is easy, and pretty much can come out in one large piece. The drivers side is jammed up in there pretty well. Just take the pieces you can get to as you go, and you'll get it all out. I was actually surprised at the room you get from getting rid of that thing! My A2W will now fit up under the dash on the floor now that i pulled that stuff out!

I'm not sure how it would sag as long as it is still bolted up to the car? regardless, I'm not cutting out the bracing.

if you actually pull the dash out (not that hard) you will find that the rubber sound deadening goes all the way up to the windshield. All of the sound deadener ( and there is alot of it) is worthlike close to 100lbs. pull off your inner quarter trim and look in the rear wheel wells. I bet there are oieces on the backs of the quarters. It stuff like that that adds up.

100lbs? I doubt that, but there is probably a solid 30, maybe 40lbs
