What slicks on my drag car?
I read the FAQ and have been on the phone with the MT tech line. But I am still unsure what the best tire choice is for my setup. So I figured I would see what the guys running the tires have to say.
2600lb race weight
Independent rear, torque arm, HKS drag coilovers
Powerglide T-brake and 5600rpm stall
Single Turbo LS1 600rwhp, 75 shot off the line
The car will see no street use it is a race only car. So steet manners are no concern.
Mickey Thompson told me the ET Street was my best choice. They said its the same compound as there drag slick. Just a little stiffer sidewall. But the soft sidewall will help me out on the launch sense I have independent rear. As compared to the drag radial. He also said if I went to a 9" four link setup he recc's the MT Drag Radial for a better launch. He also said the soft sidewall of the ET would work better with a automatic.
Others said basically the opposite and that I would be better off with the Drag radial because I have independent rear and a automatic
Here are the tires I am looking at. If you think any others should be added. Let me know.
Max Size
28" Tall
13.4" Section Width
15x10" rim (already have)
MT ET Street
$217.95
28x13.5-15
Tire Diameter (in): 28.00 in.
Section Width (in): 13.20 in.
Tread Width (in): 11.00 in.
Hooiser QTP
$190.95
28x14.5-15
Tire Diameter (in): 28.00 in.
Section Width (in): 13.10 in.
Tread Width (in): 12.00 in.
MT ET Street Radial
$209.95
325/50-15
Tire Diameter (in): 28.00 in.
Section Width (in): 13.00 in.
Tread Width (in): 11.00 in.
They dont make the MT ET in the same size as the Hoosier QTP. Its the closest comparible I can fit. As of right now I am leaning towards the Hoosier QTP. It has the greatest tread width out of the tires I can fit, its the cheapest and I feel it will give me the best traction.

28x10.5s ET drag. part # 3055s Thats' all you need for what you're trying to do.
Radial tire shake and that irs is all done. The full et drag from my exp has always worked better then the et street, the stiff sidewall will help the car react quicker and be a touch more stable at high speeds.

As of now I am still thinking the 28x14.5 QTP Hoosier is my best bet still. Its still the widest section width I can fit. Has great wear properties and dosnt require a long burnout. I also found it for $195 shipped, so it is also the cheapest so far.

I have run qtp's in the past, I thought they were better then an et street fwiw.
If you have to go DOT, I'd go that route. You don't want tire shake with irs, that's really bad news, anyone that's ever had it can tell you what that's like, it shakes teh car hard enough so you're gonna think your teeth are gonna fall out, anythign less then a 5/8 stud will be snapping off the back, etc.etc.
