Default How to hook on 17" wheels

I am thinking about getting a c5 and wondering if 17inch z06 wheels would hook. If I go with a vette I would do a 4000stall and bolt ons so I am looking at cutting around 1.5x short times. What needs to be done suspension/rearend wise to make this work? Is it even possible?

I don't have a Vette, but I have a few bolt-ons, 4000 stall, and 17" M/T drag radials and I have went a best of 1.55 60' and a few 1.56s.

Tires alone will probably get you some 1.5s in a Vette. Especially if you run 17x11s with 315 DRs.

Its all in the converter, and making sure the tires hook. Suspension helps too...but you'll see the biggest difference in a well matched converter.

Well I had a 4000stall in my trans am with 16" tire and et streets, it went 1.57. It chattered the tires a lot and hardly ever fully hooked. I know what converter will do it, I just dont want something that is going to be useless if it never hooks. Tires were only 255s tho. I was just thinking with less sidewall of a 17" wheel it will be worse.

at the track there is really no reason not to run a 15" slick IMO.

Well it's not a Vette, but MightyMouse went 8.7x @ 160ish on 17'' wheels with 315/35/17 M/T ET streets.

Then why put a vette on a drag strip?

Might talk to the corvette guys to see what all suspension tweaks can be made to help hook. A hoosier or MT 17" radial can be made to hook quite well, but you may have to mess with the suspension more than you'd like for a successfully consistent launch.

PM Zturd, he runs fast in a vette, recently blew up the rear and did it on a 15" rim I beleive. the issue with a 17" rim is you will not have enough fender well to accomondate a taller side wall, and the side wall is what is going to give you that ability to hook.

Depending on how much power, and since it is an auto look for 17" drag radial, I think M/T makes one now.

I know the issue with 17" wheel is going to less sidewall, thats why I made this thread to see what else can be done to help compensate for that.

M/T drag radial, should get you right where you need to be. there is really no need for a slick.

What I'm gonna do is is go with a hoosier 325/40 or 45. They have a 28" tire, which will provide more sidewall.

Those 315s look huge, seems like that would slow the car down.
