Default ET Street or ET Drag

I am looking at getting some 26"/11.5/15 slicks. I will be driving to the track on them wether they are street legal or not. My race weight right with the 17" y2ks is 3720 so is should be a little less with the new wheels. Should I go with the ET Streets or the stiff sidewall Drags. The car has full suspension, m6, 3.25 gears,TExtralia Twin and about 700rwhp.

well if you drive the slicks on the street you will destroy them very quickly .....i would get the radials if you are driving on the street

Driving on the street with full slicks, not only is it dangerous and illegal, the tires will be shot in absolutely no time. The radials work better then an ET street too, another reason to just go with a radial.

The S et drag will work better then both IMO because it's less sensative to track and suspension IMO. @ your power level I'd go with a 28 inch tire unless you're dead set against it for some reason.

325/50 radial would probably be your best bet if you want to drive there and back on them.

I know how shitty the ET streets feel up top. I thought the main cause of that was running a radial up front. I would only use the tires to drive 40 miles to the track and back not everyday or a dd. These will be track wheels and tires. I was wanting to get away from a DR and go for all out traction. I have a hard time getting the ones I have not to hook with the old slipping clutch. I was also worried about using a 28" tire with 3.25 gears. I am thinking it will bog the car down at this power level. Maybe when I turn it up later to 800.

you would have to be ignorant to buy an et street in order to daily drive on street.

from time to time, ok.

I just did the swap from a M/T drag radial to the e.t. street and regret it. The DR's gave way better traction, at the cost of not lasting as long, but i would rather not lose a race because im inconsistent. So my vote is for the DR 325/50/15 like said above.

Why the 3.25 gearing with an M6 setup? I doubt you need that much gear.

I'd put a 325 radial on the car with a 3.42 or 3.73 gear and that should be fine to get you well into the 150+ mph range.

He has an M6 so the drag radials won't hook for crap at the track. They are made for Automatics... I tried the Drag Radials last year and was a complete joke. I switched to a 26.5" ET Drag Stiff Wall. I have to wait until The first week of April to try them out...

I just talked to a someone at M/T and he informed me that the stiff sidewall drag and the ET street are the same tires. Just one has the grooves. So that is that I am going to try.

The et street and et drags are not the same.I have run both. The et drags are stable on the big end with as little as 11 lbs of air,i run 13.ET streets were never stable at any tire pressure. The et drags with a S, for stiff side wall (for stick shift cars)are what you need. The guy you talked to at MT was probably newbee!!! I would not drive these on the street.

I run an S tire on my car, off teh transbrake the car will leave like my sig picture and higher if I am not careful with the suspension setup.... so the S will work with an auto too, especially off the brake.

The S tire and the et street are not even close to the same tire. Whoever told you that is wrong, I have spoken to 2 different folks @ m/t about tires and they are far from the same.

good thread, Ive been up in the air between these 2 also. I was only able to pull 1.60 flat with the ET Streets and they are terrible at the big end..even though my big end is half track for you guys lol.

The ET drag, is twice the tire of an et street IMO. The radials, if you can get the car to work on them will be as fast or faster then the et drag, but it's alot harder to get a car to work on them.

For the thread starter's needs a 28x10.5S tire would be the best choice, if he must stay with a 26, then the 26x10.5S tire (if they make an S version of the 26 inch tire not sure on that) would be the next best bet.

Regardless that 3.25 gear is wrong, no way in hell the car's gonna need that gear, unless he's making enough power to trap in the 180's that gear is gonna kill track performance big time.

A set of 3.73 gears and the 28 inch tire would be perfect, 3.42's with the 26 would be o.k., but the 26 is going to be a traction compromise regardless what tire he chooses.

I run 3.25 to help spool the turbo and do more highway pulls than anything. The guy I talk to at MT was named Steve I think.

What about Hoosier street legal slicks. Do they ride the same on the big end.

Ive used QTP and ET Streets seem'd more stable...But the QTPs hooked better IMO and better street driving tread life

100% Agree. IF you can get a radial to work the out come should be the same, if not better but the trick is to get it to work.

I had a set of 27x11.5 qtp's on my car a couple years ago. I didn't find them to be unstable at all, I actually thought they were pretty good.

QTP's are a better tire then the ET street, et drag is still my preferance if I have a choice with slicks.

There's nothing you can do with the offboost tuning to get the same effect of the gearing for loading the turbo for highway pulls? I know guys with turbo race cars that run some SERIOUS timing offboost to get the thing spooling up on the 2 step... maybe look into increasing the timing with certain map sensor readings? That gear for a drag car is gonna be bogus. You'll be in first gear forever and the car is gonna fall on it's face so bad out of the hole that it's gonna run like ****. I wouldn't even take it to the track with that gearing, you'll be looking at your timeslip and thinking you're in a 700 rwhp supra as you see a **** et @ 140 mph.

NEITHER. Look at the M&H Racemaster 25x11.5x15 cheeter slick. they out hooked the m/t tires on my car.On my car n/a 1.42 60 foot on the M&H and I have a m6 car. A lot of people love the m/t's but for me they didn't cut it.

JL-WS6-How well did the hoosier qtp's hook? I'm looking to run a 27'' tire and m&h don't make one in a 27''
