Default Weight reduction, yes I read the list.

What are some WR items that I can do without gutting my car, I like my AC, PS, and carpet, any ideas?
I am planning on removing the AIR system for now, then probably a lighter battery. How hard is it to remove the bumper supports?
Thanks
-Steve

This is entirely a preference thing. Almost everything is on Colonel's list. No one can say what to remove, just go out and look at your car, decide what you could do without, and then remove it. Here is what I would do to begin with:

Windshield wiper fluid resovoir
Large Back seat (bench part, keep buckets)
Jack/spare
Heat shielding under car
AIR/EGR

THen after that, go for lighter weight replacement items until you reach your desired weight.

how much do you weigh?, sometimes its the driver that needs the weight reduction, if you loose 10lbs then drop 10 here and there off your car, you'll be able to see a tenth or two difference

I guess you're asking which reductions don't really effect drivability or appearance? A very subjective question indeed but I'll give it a shot...

Actually, the street version is a couple of pounds heaveier, as weighed by someone who posted in the Weight Reduction thread I believe. The Race Pump I weighed to be about 7-8 pounds lighter, but most people won't want the hassle of one of these.

A dry cell battery is 24lbs lighter than a standard one How well do they work and will they work well in the northeast? If this is correct i'll be getting one this week

I think I remember my stock battery in my '00 weighing 38 lbs. I have one drycell that weighs 24 and another that weighs 14.

These dry cell bats, are they like optima brand or whatnot?

Yeah, the reason I ask is because I have a daily driver here, and don't really want to lose a lot of my amenities.
For the bumper supports and brackets, why are those there in the frist place? Do they help during a crash?
thanks

Optima doesn't make one so far as I know. The brand I use is Odyssey by Hawker Energy.

Bumper supports are there to help the car meet federal crash regulations. How much do they help in a crash? You'll probably get one answer from those who've never held one and another from those who've removed them. When you take one out and look at it you'll form your own opinion.

How are those bats with large loads say from a large 800watt stereo?

the supports are pretty useless is what you are saying?

The bumper supports are only good for 5 mph inpacts....you will be sorry if you back up into something slowly and your bumper just cracks or spierwebs, but most people dont have that problem, I will most likely remove both of mine this winter..

A 14 lb batt is not going to run your big stereo for very long at all with the car turned off. However, the alternator (140 AMP, btw) will run it just fine with the car running. If you want to listen to it with the car turned off, either keep the stock one or go with a medium size (24 lb) dry cell. I've had both and I have a fairly powerful system too.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the bumper supports were meant for the 5 MPH test. Personnally, I don't think they'll do jack at 60 MPH but that's just my opinion. They're just ~22 lbs of foam and thin stamped steel. Not much compared to a 3600 lb car, IMO.

My car still has all the amenities. Drives great and does good at the track

I have removed or replaced the following:
No fluid in windshield wash reservoir
Rear seat & belts
Heat shielding (where cats use to be)
Front bumper support
Panhard support brace
Lightweight carpet (Year One)
Lightweight torque converter
Headers & ORP
Tubular K member & arms
Rear control arms & panhard rod
ACPT carbon fiber driveshaft
Weld Wheels & tires

Track Only:
Rear speaker panels & divider
Passengers seat

Added weight:
12 bolt (~34 lbs)
Yank cross member (~2 lbs)
Drive shaft safety loop (~10 lbs)

Weighs in at 3320 in Track mode. ~3425 in street trim (17" Nitto around 315 DR's in the back).

Drove it 1200 miles this past weekend and ran 12.07 @ 109 (1.60) at the Year One bash.
