Default running the car cold.....

How many of you run the car straight off the trailer? or do you let it warm up before a pass? I heard you run a risk of breaking valve springs with high RPM with a cold motor. whats your opinions on this?

i like going down the track just to warm the car up example if i go 10.50's ill run a 12.0 just to warm things up ..... then go ***** out

You never rev a cold motor, let alone make a pass on it. You need to bring the oil up to temp, along with everything else. Either run it on jacks or cruise around the pits. Don't just sit there and idle it, as that won't help the tranny or rear warm up.

my car always ran best when hotlapped, compared to letting it sit an hour between passes.

Thanks for the info guys. I've allways drove my car to the track and was curious when I start trailering it this season.

Never run when the motor is cold. You break valvesprings doing that. Having ALL fluids up to temp is different then heat soaking the intake.

On a given race day, even track only cars drive around the parking lot or rail car run on jackstands. Just for an example.

remember to warm up the rear too so driving thru the pits or running in gear on jackstands is a good idea

Thats what I try to tell people. They will sit there and idle the car, and make passes once the motor is warm. First of all, the oil needs to be warm. Cold oil flows like molasses. Second of all, your tranny and rear end need warm fluid just like the motor.

This applies to your daily driver or street car too. Don't just idle it, get in and drive it slow. Bring everything up to temp at once.

Ask a tranny guy if he wants you making passes at a 80 degree fluid temp.
