Default Big block 4th gen Camaros

Who has abandened their LS1 and gone with something else? I'm thinking about stopping the $$ on my LS1 build-up and considering something monster.

I'm sitting at 11s on motor and don't imagine I'll shoot anymore than a 100 shot on the stock bottom end. As I start to consider forged/big bore/stroked LS1s and the $$ vs. ET, it's making me go hmmmm. I'm one of those guys that has been chasing the track rush for about 20 years and I already know whatever I build it's never enough. Thankfully, I've got a wife that supports what I do!!!! Now I'm starting to think before I get too deep into the LS1 buildup, this car might be a nice platform to drop a mountain motor in. Anybody else already go this route?

I've seen a couple 4th gen's with big blocks in them. GM's black Z has (I think) an all aluminum 572" donovan motor??? I also saw a 98 Z a while ago with a 502" crate. They fit, but require serious mods. The ones I saw had to cut the cowl and the bottom of the windshield to clear the intake and carb setup. They were also running a beltdriven distributor off the front of the motor, since there was no room at the standard location.

Another option would be to look into a big-inch gen 1 small block. I think with an aftermarket block you can get close to 450"? I think it would be much easier to swap into a 4th gen than a bigblock, and you could still make some monster power without having to pay ls1 prices. Just a thought.

Good luck
Jeff

Goal is a 6XX motor but budget is pointing towards a 454-502 setup at first till more money becomes available next year .....I will be posting pics soon of the build up...having a local shop do all the custom work, they do alot of Drag Car setups...their shop car is a 92 T/A with a 598 in it that runs 7.50's @189 mph!

we are sticking w/ a tq arm setup just so we can compete in a few street classes and maybe even Thunder ....we will see what happens though

I will let you guys know how it is going

539ci BBC 4.56" Bore, 4.125" Stroke, 15:1 CR, Ported Dart Pro1 345s, Cast Single Plane Intake, and the right Cam can make over 900hp, at a decent race weight too boot. :-) This also leaves another solid .040 for rebuilds, and still be under the 550ci limit.

Maybe I've mulled over this combination for Hot Street before.....

I'll be at a couple of the races next year in True Street.

Good luck!
