Default Heater removal?

I saw a bunch of you guys had the heater boxes out of your cars at the TR shootout. Anyone happen to know how much that box, core, etc saves on weight when you took it out? Didn't see anything really in the weight savings list.

I removed mine because I needed more space. It is a lot easier to change the plugs now. But I would guess everything plus the black box is about 25 pounds.

Lots of weight to be saved. Between the heater core box, condenser and associated tubing, there's an easy 50#.

My heater box came out pretty easy using a BFH.

Lol! I'm guessing 50# also. I was just thinking about what it would take to get to a 3200lb or so vette raceweight and see what she would run. I would need to save 150lbs from somewhere...still have lightweight kmember and a arms to do so and air bags still in place so it might be pretty easy.

Just the heater, is only like 5 lbs. The entire HVAC assembly w/ A/C is almost 70 lbs. About 40 without.

I think you have to take the dash out to remove the heater. There is one screw under the hood that is supposed to be a real pain to get to. I think the a/c stuff is around 40lbs and the stuff under the dash is 20-25.

When I took mine out I used a BFH and a cutoff tool. I just had to take the panel on the bottom of the passenger side to get a few bolts out. I then made a cover from a sheet of stainless steel to fit on the outside and bolted it on using the bolts I took off from the inside of the car. I also unbolted the blower motor. But I have not taken all of the ducting out of the dash. That is when I get a little more time.

Awesome Pics Nick! How much do you guesstimate that assembly to be?

I puleld the dash completely out. Then just ripped the stuff out. I broke some of the plastic around the heater core and ac fan though. No big deal. No nead to do anything with the motor. There is one screw beind the center of the motor at about the height of the valley cover. 10mm i believe.

I did mine when the motor was out. I guess you could do it with the motor in, just would be a little harder to swing the removal tool.

I'll pull all the crap behind the dash(along w/ a lot of other stuff) out when I put my overhead bars in. I put BMR a-arms(upper & lower), k-member and took everything but the motor off the nose of the car. It looks like it sits about 2-3" higher than it used to. Hee-Haw Racing!!!
