Default Please help w/60fts!!!

OK well i went to test & tune friday to try out the new set up. I have torque arm -2.5, qa1s 2 front 5 rears, Hoosier qtp @ 14 psi. The DA was around 600ft. I was launching @ 3000 rpm and was lifting both wheels which was pretty cool, but my 60fts are not that much better compared to the tci 3000 (1.63 60fts) i had. really disappointed, was expecting to gain 4-5 tenths with the Bogart's, Hoosiers, SS4000 and qa1s....need some advice. BTW the race weight is around 3650lbs + or - 50lbs with me in it.

1st run

60ft 1.62
330ft 4.72
1/8 7.37
1kft 9.67
1/4 11.58 @ 119.85

2nd run

60ft 1.59
330ft 4.67
1/8 7.31
1kft 9.60
1/4 11.52 @ 120.00

Wolfe's having a pretty good sale right now. How is the car launching? Is it twisting up or what? Sounds like it's leaving OK if you're pulling both wheels. What does the rear do on a more stiff shock setting? If the track will hold, get it as firm as possible ( there's no way to say that without sounding like a perv.)

You have to think to yourself and figure out what changes you can make. We can sit here on the net and try to help you all you want, but only you know your car. Next time you hit the strip do this.

Take a notebook, or make a spreadsheet on a laptop with you--

Run # 60ft time // Torque Arm Setting // Launch RPM // RR Shock // RL Shock // FR Shock // FL Shock // Tire Pressures

Once you start getting data you will know where the car needs to be, and what changes had either a positive or negative effect on the car.

All depends how serious you want to get.

Your not doing too bad, considering the cam choice. What I would suggest is some video of the car. The car maybe slamming on the rear and while it is nice your popping the wheels, the car could be nosing.

You may want to play with shock adjustment and like said, look for a solid rear sway. TRZ sells a stock style but is a real sway bar like a wolfe.

Ultimately it maybe an issue of race weight and with that said, start looking for things that can be easily removed and put back in. That will really help the launch.

i think it was launching pretty good. Didn't notice a whole lot of twisting...it did squat more then i thought it would. i did not try a stiffer setting because i didn't want drop my tire psi down any lower...i guess i should of. Thank for the advise...def. will start keeping record of my runs and settings.

i think one of my buddies recorded some of my runs, will ask for the vids if he did. Weight reduction is becoming a problem because i take her out on the weekends but will look into it like you said that are easy to put back. btw what do you mean by nosing? thanks

We think your car is hooking hard but then falling on its face bogging then come back a live. If so this means your unloading a drag bar will help that alot and weight off the front of the car and maybe a click more in the rear shocks. helped mine big time

Try leaving at around 1200-1400rpm.

if the car is squatting it's not moving foward. Stiffen up that rear. Sounds like you've got that heavy car to transfer weight so Nice job on that!
Dragbar is a must. I use the Spohn.

Are you spinning? It didn't look like it in the vid..Seems like you should be coming out harder. I have a lot less power & pulled a best of 1.56 60' & do mostly low 1.6's. I have the same converter but a heck of a lot less HP..1.60 60' on this run

no spinning, dead hooking. she might be squatting more then it should. i gain 2 tenths which aint bad but should of gain more for the mods i did. im gonna try the spohn drag bar, a click firmer on the rears and see if the track holds it if not then i'll drop the tire psi.

Before you spend money on parts, why not try to make adjustments with what you have? My car goes low 1.3's all day long with a stock rear sway bar and a $30 air bag.

Stiffen up the rears until it spins off the line, then loosen them up a click, loosen the fronts up, and remove the front sway bar.

Play with how the car wants launched. Try all different settings. Stab it from idle, then 1400-1500 RPM. Then get up on the convertor to the point it tries to push through the brakes.(this is how mine likes to go)

I was thinking of doing air bags too for fine tuning after the drag bar. def need to play with the qa1 settings and launch rpms. the tci 3000 liked to launch around 2500 rpm and was cutting low 1.6 60s with no problems, trapping 118-119mph.

You won't need airbags if you buy a drag bar.
