Default roll cage question

roughly how much tub'g is required to build an 8.50 legal chromoly roll cage? 50ft?75ft? anyone have any idea? 98 trans am btw

Totally depends on where you bring the back bars to. If you cut them short it will be about 70 feet, if I remember correctly (chassis guy please correct me on this)

I know going to the trunk area is about 6 feet more tubing, but does help keep the back of the car strait.

if its a serious race car i'd have bars from behind the headlights on the frame rails and back to the frame rails beside the T-top holders.

I 2nd that. When I 25.5 my junk the front frame rails are getting tied in.

no there not,lol

there,s roughly 75-80 feet of 1"5/8 and then the 7/8-1" material for gussets .8 , 6x6 plates
thats just an 8.50 cage,also depends on who builds it ,as to what goes in it

No? I wanted to cut as much metal out of the car as possible... might need those bars to keep the nose attached

Job's yours when I'm ready Bob rest assured of that, whatever you want to do is cool with me. There's gonna be alot of round bar in the nose though, cause I want to shop everything off from the shock towers forward, and need a way to mount the hood/hold the nose up.

Yup, you got it right there for sure. I trimmed the bottom of my bumper cover a long time ago when the support came out, so the lower attachment points are gone, but the corner's are still there, that along with a bar in the nose like you have there is dead on what I was looking to do.

I want to put a small radiator in the nose, that's the only difference. Something that's thicker then normal, but smaller (shorter/narrower) and with the water pump mounted in the radiator, that way the fuel cell can go in the nose. Or, if a turbo, or intercooler ever found it's way in there.... there'd be room for that too. No plans for that in the forseeable.... but ya never know.

I don't know who painted the nose over on that car after you guys got done, but they did a good job, I saw the pictures of it once it was finished, and it came out killer. I have a 5 inch sloped VFN hood waiting to go on the car too right now. Plexiglass windshield too, I'll hold off on that since I know you pull the glass anyway
