Default need help where to look why I lost over a second and 14mph loss at the track today?

I have a 01 t.a w/402ci,m6 car. My last track outing I got 10.8@128.43mph. and my 1/8mi was 6.9 to 7.0@104 to 105mph. My 60 foots were not the best with 1.55 to 1.49. Today same car,set up but cooler brisk weather My 60 foots were 1.65 to 1.61 with 1/8mi 7.7@94mph and 12.0's at 114mph. The car seems to not be pulling like it did at all. I thought the clutch may be going out. I did the exspressway 6th gear punch and it seems to hold, but that didn't work last time my clutch went it only slipped in 1st and 2nd gear. WHERE SHOULD I START TO LOOK FOR THIS ISSUE? Thanks,Mike c.

I would start by cleaning the MAF and resetting long term fuel trims.

Something is seriously wrong. I vote clutch. It should have a higher tendency to slip in 3rd or 4th.....rather than 1st and second. I definitly don;t advise flooring it in 6th gear as a test.....that is definitly hard on the clutch reguardless.

I don;t think it has to do with your tune as you didn;t change any thing since your last outting. Maybe check TPS signal. Make sure your TB blade is opening all the way (visually as well). Check coolant level. Make sure you didn;t pop a head gasket.

Is the car flashing a code? Is it smoking at all? Any chance you have a dead hole?

I was thinking of seeing if all the coils and plugs are firing. I got no codes flashing. It just seemed to loose it's guts when I floor it. I do think the clutch may be it,but driving around it doesn't feel like it's slipping.

It looks like you're losing real time in 3rd and 4th.

NINETRES-your saying the clutch will usually slip more in 3rd and 4th gear over first? I don't feel or see the rpm's spiking when floored, just the car lost its pull all over.

Correct. It is much harder for the clutch to hold in a numerically higher gear when floored if the clutch is slipping.

Like other mentioned too: Check plugs, wires and coils for spark. I just don't see how your tune magically changed as some others seem to think. DISCLAMER LOL: I am by no means a tuner. BUT I just don;t think your tune can all of the sudden change once it is loaded onto the car.

I would do a compression test and throw in a new set of plugs. Sounds like you lost around 140 rwhp basically. Even if your tune is off a little you will never lose that much power. Maybe your fuel pump is taking a ****, try a new fuel filter. Make sure you are not going through coolant or any of the unusual things. Have you done anything recently to the car?

I made no changes to the car at all. I did check all coils and they are all firing. The plugs only had 2,500mi on them and were good, but I added a new set anyway. I have a new fuel filter I bought and never used,so i'll try that. I'm really thinking more after the coild were good that the clutch may be it. This clutch has only 2,000mi on it so if it's bad I think the speed shop who had my car did it. WHY? Because They had my car for two months for simple suspenchion work and when I got the car back my nittos were bald as slicks. My nittos had thread all over them when they got the car. Also, they told me my tq-arm had a crack(a good bmr one)which they welded back togeather and my electric cutout did not work like it did before they got it. I think they burned up my low mi clutch. I had a spec3+ before and it lasted three hard years.

It sounds like they beat the **** out of your car. That is not cool at all I would be pretty upset. One reason I do all of my own work, but I know not everyone has this luxury. It is possible the clutch did not get the proper break in so that would help explain things.

Yes sir. I know by my welded tq-arm and my tires were as bald as slicks. In the past I always did my own work but got tired of it. It's back to wrenching for me again. I'm going to add a new clutch and would bet it will be the issue. I can't say all shops are dishonest, but you never know what people will do when it's not their problem(car) It's sad but people will do this. This is not the first shop to not do me right.

I would seriously try cleaning the MAF. I was down by .8 in the quarter once due to a dirty MAF.

Sounds like a bad MAF.Easiest way to chech is to log it and see if A/F goes real lean at WOT.I've seen this alot in the last year.It will never throw a code and the car runs so lean it can't even hurt itself. On a built car you could easilly lose 100rwhp with one.
