Default BBC guys- any experience with Lemons headers?

Do any of the BBC conversion guys on here use Lemons headers or know anything about them?

I am looking at a set used, and was wondering if they are worth the money and how they fit.

Also, I am told the cylinder heads they were built for vs. the ones I have could make a difference since different heads put the ports in different locations relative to stock (all conventional head on standard deck).

.

I only know of 2 guys personally that used them.
Both hated them and the finish didn't last.
I remember the BBC in a stock front Chevelle had to beat the hell out of them.
Even thou they told them the exact head & deck height when ordering.
The other guy I don't remember his issues, but both guys said the coating didn't last more than a month or 2??

If you're trying to put a motor in a car that wasn't originally equipped with said motor (any swap really, at least for the most part) you're best bet is to have a set built to the car. Sucks and it's not cheap and takes a while, but if you want something that will fit right and has the primary size to fit the application, it's really the only way to go.

i believe you can have a set of custom headers made for around 1400-1600 which is about what lemons after you have them coated are and like everyone has said is worth the money for the fitment

i'm looking at the same issue this winter when the bigger motor goes in.... a custom set is almost maditory... might as well have them made right.... make seperate flanges for the primarys and take one out at a time.... easier to work on in the long run.

Ive seen a lot of guys run Ed Quay over Lemmon's at least for the third gen's. Said they were a little nicer and cheaper. I doubt I will even run a set of off the shelf headers again though.........

After my issues with getting headers in a 4th gen, just go get a custom set made. It will be expensive, but well worth the trouble IMO. Also see if you can get them made in groups of 2 with a slip fit close to the k-member. It will be a lot easier for R&R and working on the car than trying to twist and turn to slide a full header up from the bottom around all the crap. (wiring, dipstick, starter, steering linkage, alt., etc.)

I have them. I had to make some modification to my K-member (see attached photos). Other than that, the fit was not that bad of an issue. Removing #4 spark plug is a pain. You have to pull the primary off or severely modify a socket. You have to pull the passenger side off to remove the starter. They do hang very low. Standard Madman SYA bars will not work. The headers actually hang about an inch lower. I could only lower the front of the car about 1/2" lower than stock to maintain 3.5" of ground clearance at the collectors.

I did have the 2455 Comp series headers, they worked fine. However, a friend of mine went from 2" to 2.25" primary headers on a 468" BBC and picked up a lot of ET and MPH, so I figured I could benefit as well.

When I had the Comp series on the car, all I had to do was clearance the firewall some directly below where the HVAC box was. I am sure a sledge hammer could have done it, but we elected to cut the section out, fabricate up a box to create the recess, and then weld/seam seal it to the firewall.

Anyway, despite the mixed reviews here, I decided to buy the Lemons. They actually fit awesome, even with the large size difference vs. the Comp's.

The driver's side went right on with no problems and has great access to the plugs.

The passenger side was a bit tricky for the rear (2) tubes, but I was able to sneak them in. The front (2) plugs will come out with a socket, the rear (2) come out with an offset box wrench from underneath.

There were no issues with clearance to the K-member, and they tuck up to the floor nicely, even with the collectors being an inch larger.

Once I get a chance, I will get some pictures and post them.

Ground clearance was not an issue with the Comp's. I do have a custom core support though that will contact after a wheelie before anything else, so they are protected from that standpoint.

Here is the core support:

Here is the firewall in-process:

Here is it closer to being complete:

Finished with engine back in and Comp's installed:
