My cousins 79 notch that just went 8.43@162 is 2880 with him in it, just a 358 with a F1C
You know what cubic inch you are going to use with that 88, I was thinking about doing the same thing but I'm not sure if I would use a gen 1 engine or a ls.

On another note I have this same thread on YB and the ford guys turned it into a ford vs chevy motor convo. I've been doing my best to hold my own but I could use some help from chevy guys since there seems to be none on YB. The thread has the same title. Thanks.

I haven't talked to Shawn at Virgina speed about the motor combo yet because that is a long time away. I did talk to a well known LS engine builder at Shakedown and he suggested destroking a LSX block by using a stock size crank and it comes out to a 385 or something.

I was looking into a 99-04 Mustang w/ an LSx platform. I'd love to build one of them up. It's either build the Trans Am all the way, or do the Stang.

I wanted to do a full on race car and I dont have the heart or the money it takes to cut up my camaro. What i did was buy a already gutted race car project. It saves money and the grief of messing up a good street car.

I have no real idea but it seems like the consensus that people believe they're lighter.

I say a Camaro, just look at what Texas Speed is doing with their camaro on a stock bottom end. I also belive that a chevy engine should stay in a Chevy, but that's just my opinion.

Is the Fox a Notchback?

What type of suspension does the 99-04 style Mustang sport? How does that compare to the torque arm setup?

I go out with my firebird and, despite making 60 more rwhp, I run a 13.6 @ 101 because I
1) can't get traction worth a damn and can't put sticky tires on it because it will blow the rear
2) can't shift the car properly because the clutch pedal sticks to the floor so bad I couldn't even get it in 4th gear (hence the low trap speed)

it depends on what you want to do. do you want to spend $3000 on a rear and an adj master cyl or do you want to spend $3000 on a supercharger?

my buddy also hit his car with a 100whp shot of nitrous and went 12.6 @ 112 with a slipping clutch. I wont be able to touch that any time soon.

If I had to choose... well I did choose
interesting

I did it because IMO the mustang is a better looking car than the Camaro and the parts for a Mustang are cheaper.

And torque arms are just as effective as a triangulated 4 link. Fact.

We are all hampered with a lack of money. A Fox mustang(79-93) is by FAR the cheapest way to go fast....why? It cost less money to make it light. Light cars equal faster cars but the same engine in a 2800lb Fox Mustang as you do in a 3500lb 4th gen and the Mustang wins...by a mile.

Again as I posted earlier in this thread, get a 4th gen F body to 2800 lbs and get with me on the bill it takes to get it there. Its HUGE, Chrome moly EVERYTHING, Lightweight brakes, gutted EVERYTHING. Lightweight rear hatch, Speedglass, gun drilled star flanged axles..... and the list goes on.

A Notchback Fox stripper STARTS life at 3100lbs with a 302 and a 5 speed in it.

Dont worry about the engine that goes in the Mustang, power vs weight=ET.

Ive owned quite a few of both and this is my take, which is nothing that hasn't already been said!

Rear suspension- Tie- At one time I would have said the Mustang considering they seemed to have much better 60 foot times when the Fun Ford events were going full force. Now days it would be a wash, torque arms have a lot of leverage, but in stock form they are weak(Sheet metal) and attach to the trans. Mustangs in stock form aren't all that great either~ripped out torque boxes and other issues. Once modified they are both good!

Front suspension-Mustang- For stock vehicles I would give the slight edge to the Mustang for drag racing with the modified Mcpherson strut (79-04), for Road racing I would give it to the f-body 93-02 with the SLA.

Differential- Mustang easily- The 8.8 kicks the 10 bolt easily and is so similar to a 12 bolt chevy its scary!

Weight-Mustang
