Default Tire help

Wondering if there is much of a difference between a good set of drag radials and slicks for strip only use. No road driving strictly for the strip. Will slicks make the car hook a lot better causing parts to break.

2010 Camaro with mild mods- do have bmr trailing arms and 1000hp axles

needs some input on what tire to put on my new bogart 17" wheels.

You need to be alot more specific, as to what the car has done to it, etc.

Full slicks as a genaral rule are a better way to go in the sense that if yoru car isn't perfect, or your track is iffy, it will give you some cushion/breathing room for error, whereas the radial is alot less forgiving.

10 ss ls3 m6 mods- ported heads, cam, CAI, LT headers with MBRP exhaust, under drive pulley, Spec3+ clutch, Spohn 1000hp axles/cv joints, BMR trailing arms,

around 490RWHP

car is in stock trim and don't really want to tear it apart at this point. last year was my first at the strip so I know alot of it is practice but my best time so far is 12.44 with a 1.95 60' time but most were in the 2.0- 2.2 range.

just bought a set of 17" bogarts wheels still looking for best tires.

You really need a 15 inch rim to put a good tire on the car, and with 490 rwhp, you should be going about 10.x, a mid 12, I hope the car's seeing trap speeds in the high 120's at a minimum.

General rule is a stick car is that a bias dot or full slick is best. The Radial isn't forgiving at all so if the conditions aren't perfect you will not hook well with the radials. They can be faster if and when you get them to hook but the bias tires will give you consistently faster times.

If it were me I would go with a dot bias slick. A set of 17s aren't going to help you hook with the shorter sidewall but if you really want to run them you could make it work.

I wish I was trapping that high, best has only been just over 115. Car weighs almost 4000lbs with me in it and 1/4 tank of fuel.

The 17" bogarts were made to fit over the big factory brembro brakes. I didn't really want to switch them out for smaller ones but the more I learn about drag racing the more I see it will be hard to keep my car in stock trim to keep going faster.

Good advice, listen and then decide what is more important.

With a 17" rim your tire choices are going to be pretty limited.

There is only one choice to my knowledge on the slick side which is going to be a 26 x 11.50 ET Street. If you can find a set of tubes for these I would recommend them to help stiffen the sidewall some.

For drag radials I do agree that once they spin they are harder to recover on but you will run faster on radials. With radials you can get a much taller tire which will also help with making the car work for you.

I just realized this is a 2010 camaro LOL. Yeah I dunno what you can do as far as mods to get a smaller caliper on the back... but that's something that the aftermarket is BOUND to come out with soon. This, I'm sure of.

I know a couple of guys have said their just running the v-6 brakes. I quess I should have done a little more research before shelling out all that cash for the bogarts. They are sweet wheels and were made to fit over the big calipers. Now looks like that money may have been spent without much of a return. Live and learn!
