Default Lightweight driveshaft info please

I have a steel driveshaft made by "Spicer" (Dana Spicer) and it is HEAVY! I have my car down to around 2935 without me in it, and am running out of weight reduction. I already have drag brakes, k-member, anything that can be taken out..blah blah. Im just curious how much of a difference I would see doing a lighter driveshaft, aluminum, or carbon fiber. Any info is appreciated.

I just went from a 3" steel to new aluminum, but unfortunatley that wasn't the only thing I changed. I went from a 6.50 to a 6.44 but here's what happened.

I went from 3,618lbs to 3,490.
Went from a 150 shot to about a 75 -100 shot
Got the converter restalled

But also, the car never really left straight. I would say maybe a gain of a couple hundreths. Some guy said he picked up two tenths, but thats hard for me to believe.

the weight difference is gonna be about 3-4 pounds between a good 3.5 inch aluminum shaft and a steel 3" shaft. if you can sell off the steel shaft and then not have to com up with a huge difference to go with the aluminum, then the gain is gonna be great for the little it should cost. i look at it this way... less rotating weight is free horsepower. can't go wrong. We have a great deal on the PST aluminum shafts right now. call us and we'll get ya hooked up on one.

Only 3-4 pounds? I havent weighted my driveshaft, but i thought the weight difference would be substancial between a steel, and aluminum one.

I just swapped my Strange 3" Steel for a 3.5 PST alum. I didnt weigh them but there was definetly a noticeable difference in weight.

.

Between the 3 cars I have steel, moly & alum. The cost is not really the best lb per dollar.
Unless you are switching set ups and need a new shaft, I would spend that money on something more cost effective.
I also have a PST alum in one of mine. Very nice piece.

Ok, thanks for the input guys. Anyone try carbon fiber? Speed inc. has them on the website for 780. Just curious, seen it was a option.

I picked my aluminum PST up from MWC, I ***believe*** they are running a sale on them right now. I went that route because of the mwc 9" I picked up at the same time The DS is a nice piece - the mwc 9" on the other hand is a BEAUTIFUL piece!

Like others have said - not the best $$ to gain w/ the ds, but if you ever street drive the car, it should help reduce vibration. From a weight standpoint, being that the diameter is so small, the rotational weight savings are less than loosing an equal amount of weight on a rim/tire combo or drag brake setup

I upgraded to a carbon fiber but a rod bolt let go first time out so I didn't get any numbers with the CF shaft to compare. That's racing I guess....
