Removing the *tilt* steering wheel assembly to save weight?

If you plan on swapping it for a race only type unit then it would shed some weight, but I don't know about that "serious weight". This would also require deleting the ignition, blinker, cruise, wiper, and headlight dimmer switches. Not exactly the setup you'd want for a street car. I wouldn't bother if you are talking about converting the stock tilt column to a non tilt type, however swapping the steering wheel and deleting the airbag is an easy way to lighten things up.

from NLang (avatar) on a drag tech post on lowest race weight.
"Do you need a tilt-able steering column? You can buy a 4130 roller bearing column kit for $140 from autoweldchassis.com. I think I kicked 20-25lbs here"

I built my own tubular column and steering shaft...saves about 10 lbs over an OEM column (just the column, this doesn't include going to a racing steering wheel which is more weight savings)
