Default Roll Cage/Bar Pics

I don't know if this is the right area but does anyone have any pics of their Roll cage or roll bar in a 93-02 Camaro or Firebird. I was thinking about getting a 8pt roll bar kit from Competition Engerneering. Does anyone have one of these kits in their car and how do you like the fit in the car? What are some things to look at when buying or building a rollbar other than the tubing size and thickness?

The only thing I'd look for is a good shop with some experience and a hell of a welder lol. I havent seen a unmodified kit that didnt look sloppy, I know theres a few sponsors that do some sick cages, I've got a buddy that runs a metal fab shop here in nj and hes been doing the cages for a few local speed shops, If my car ever gets to be worthy of a cage he's whos gonna do it lol.

I recently removed an SCCA spec T2 cage from a 2001 Camaro and custom built an 8 point with NASCAR style door bars.

We removed the main hoop and rear down bars in tact.

It's made of 1 3/4" .120 DOM tubing.

It's a great start to a cage.

$100

Just put my WOlf 6 point weld in the car saturday, fit terrific, jig notched perfect, Dont have any finished pics yet though. Had to work the plates to match the floor contour but worked out great.
Wolf is known to have the best fitting cage for Our cars, Period. Spend the extra 100 bucks for the jig notching IT is worth way more than that, makes install a gravy train. If you cant weld pay someone Who can. another option you may pursue is wolf actually makes a 6 point bolt in cage..

Sorry to hijack but is a swing out legal for a 10 point cage? IM going with a custom chrome moly 10 point and would prefer swing outs as the door bar really makes a car a PITA to get in and out of when you are 6'3 .

i would have to say no ... in the event of a side impact they will brake...( depending on how hard u get hit or hit something) ive done a couple chassis and ill never put swingouts in a car... if u cant get in it loose weight... id just rather be safe than sorry...

F-bodies have pretty low rooflines, people significantly over 6' tall will have problems with door bars no matter what they weigh.

That said, if done right there is on reason why swing outs have to be weaker than a solid bar (maybe not as rigid), most have more steel in them than the bar that is cut to put them in.

Instead of all of the stress being transferred through a solid piece of tubing it has one bolt that takes its place being the weakest point on each side. Swingouts can be constructed fairly safe, enough NHRA approves them but they are more likely to fail than a solid bar in an accident.

Were you able to pull the cage out of the car to paint it after welding? The cage looks great.

this is a funny car cage and more then a 10pt, but it might give some ideas for your cage. the driver is 6ft and 240 and can get it without swing outs. but! I run a street car and have swing outs on my car and love them. and as stated, swing outs are legal to 8,50s
