Default How can I get my car to hook?

I just want a 9 second slip and I'll be happy. The car should get that if I could get off the line quick. My best 60' ever is a 1.65. I run 275/60/15 MT drag radials and skinnies up front on Bogarts. I have strange single adjustable shocks all around. I have the front set on the hardest setting because the car will bottom out easy. I have a transbrake but it is of no use right now because it just blows the tires off. The only way I can get any kind of decent start is to roll into the throttle from idle. I have tried tire pressures from 15 through 20 lbs. Should I go lower? It is heavy which may be a factor (3975 lbs.) I see other guys run nice 60's, what is the trick? Am I going to have to try slicks? Thanks for any advice. Tom.

Maybe try a 325/50/15 or i think they have a 295/55/15 in the M/T ET Streets or maybe even a Hossier Quick Time Pro because they are a wrinkle wall.

What gear and what stall? Something is really wrong if you can't stall it up and hook it. What are the back shocks set at? List the rest of your suspension (T/A, LCA's, Springs,) Has the car been scaled?

3000 stall, 3:50 gear. Midwest 9" ear with the short torque arm, stock rear springs. I had the adl. chrome moly panhard bar and LCA's but I didn't like the race car clinging and clanging (Heim joints) so I put the stock pieces back on. I did try it with those parts before I took them off and it seemed pretty much the same. I'm thinking going sub 15 lbs. on tire pressure.

If you are running at a track like edgewater or kilkare, m/t radials didnt work to great for me either and I am a lot slower than you. I went to ET streets and its a little better but I would go for a slick.

Get some real tires. I run a m&h racemaster 26x11.5x15 on a m6 car weighting 3,700lbs and cut 1.42 to 1.44 60's all day long. This is a cheeter slick if you need taller go full slick. www.intercotire.com I tried hoosier and m/t tires. the hoosier did ok but them/t's on my car will not hook. The m&h tire is the only one i can really hook on.

I see all these 7 sec. drag radial cars running on the M/T's so I thought I would be fine. I will play with tire pressures and shock settings before I try slicks. I only do test & tune so I'll never get to a really good track. A 1.50ish or better should put me in the 9's. I'd like to be able to use the trans. brake and a little air under the front tires would be cool too.

If you got a buddy that has some slicks see if he will let you borrow them, then use the trans brake and tell us what the sky looked like that day . Other than that I would say e/t streets with more tire and less pressure.

That is your problem right there. To 60ft good with a rwd car, you need as much weight transfer as possible. Your car cannot transfer weight fast enough with the shocks set so tight. If it bottoms out on the launch then you need to raise it some...

FWIW I keep my QA1 single adjustable shocks at about 3/4 full loose in front and the rears at about 3/4 full tight and I can 60ft a 1.6x all night long with an m6, much less power and a 26" tire.

^^What he said.

You have it locked down in the front, thats one reason you can't hook for ****. What other suspension do you have?

Suspension/Drivetrain setup is 80% of hooking and the other 20% is the tires.....

Play with your suspension till you find what works, also make sure your pinion angle is correct...

I thought the single adjustable fronts only affected them on the way down. Is that not true? This suspension thing is new to me I've always focused on making power until now. -2 degrees pinion angle.

loosen up the front shocks for sure! but make one change at a time so you know what worked.
