Motor plate and Mid plate?
#2
I beleive you must run a mid plate. Never seen one without the other. That is allot weight and stress to put on one fairly thin piece of metal since the next mount would be on the trans.

.
A lot of us used just the front plate. It's just a replacement for the motor mounts.
As I got faster I did add the midplate, but ran the front only for several years.
As long as the limiter is done properly, you should be OK for a mild engine.
Would I ever run the front only again, no, I've learned a lot since then.
If you use both, it makes everything so much stronger, and stable.

Im slowing putting a setup together, I want to build a stock bottom end H/C LT1 that run low 10's/ high 9's. I want to get the chassis/ suspension done first, then get to the motor/transmission.

If you are looking at plates, I would do both at the same time. For your goals you could do just front plates. But wa all know this hobby is like a meth habit, ya just get to keep your teeth.
The reason I say both at the same time is that it will effect how your converter is built. The hub on the converter is specific to the thickness of the mid plate or lack of a plate. On a 9 sec car you will be fropping some cash on a converter. May as well only do that once.

I run both plates with my LT1 motor. It was the best thing ever. More header room, better strength than motor mounts, and the final thing it makes putting the motor in alot easier. Also when you pull the trans out you don't have to do anything with the motor. It just sits on the mid plate.
I highly recommend a enigne limiter though. I didn't put one on at first and broke a heim on the torque arm one day. It bent the motor plates and slammed the carb into the cowl of the car. Not a good day.
I now run the limiter.
