yeah I've been afraid of that ever since i got the th400 installed. There is no scatter shield, and i am pretty damn scared of ever racing it hard without one on..
In the end its my mistake since i didn't research it enough, but the last thing i want to do right now is drop a f***ing tranny.

I spoke with one of the baddest transmission shops out there and he told me for a 3300 lb 900 rwhp car on 28'' tires and only going to the track maybe every other weekend he didnt feel a jw bell was nessecary. he said if it was a big tire car that was gona see tire shake with 1300+ hp and racing every week it would be a must

lt1badbird, I've seen it happen on cars with half that power. Repeated launches, especially on transbrakes, are hard on stuff. Granted, that is his opinion, but I'd do it for the safety aspect.

so the old bellhousing has to get machined off of the 400 and this one bolts on? how much would a process like this cost to have swapped.
so id want a bell housing, tci flex plate and then that brace right?
my car will have 700ish whp and i want to run a trans brake, it might see track time 5 times a year with drag radials for the time being as i want to keep the car streetable
im real new to 400's and trying to get everything right if im doing a swap this winter.
thanks guys

did you get the trans in yet? that shield can be a pain the worst bolt is the second driver side. if anybody thats reading this has went threw this is the only option dropping the motor or cutting a access point?

I don't have a picture of my old shield, but I trimmed it a little bit by the cable with a dremel, and I also had to do the same where the cooler lines were. Once I did that it went on like a glove ![Happy](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies/LS1Tech/gr_stretch.gif)
If you can, get it on the tranny out of the car, so you can see where it needs to be worked, take care of it then get it back in the car. With the car as high up as you can get it, put a board and a jack on the front of the oil pan and lift it some, so it will tile backwards, that should help too. Or, if you have a motor plate, I'd put a chain on the motor, and unbolt the motor and lower it in the car so it's resting on the k member, then you should have a ton of room to get it bolted up to the motor.
Couple tricks I've found to work over the years.
