8 point cage?
is there any difference for tech between a 8pt and 6pt? i know 6pt gets you to 9.99 or 134.99mph but do they skip 8pt and go right to 10pt? thanks aj

An 8 point (or 10 point depending on who you talk to) is a cage, and a 6 point is a roll bar. So a 6 point has a main hoop behind the back seats (with a cross bar for the harness/seat support), door bars, and two rear down bars. A 8 point (or 10) is the same with the addition of a halo around the roof line, and two front down bars by the A-Pillar. On most 4th gen cages you will also see two bars from the main hoop to the driveshaft hump behind the seats. This is not required by NHRA, but adds a lot of strength to the over all cage. Those two bars are sometimes counted as "points" because they tie into the floor. A properly constructed 8 point cage is good to 8.50 in the 1/4 mile. Hope that helps explain it all some. If not here is some info from NHRA.

The terminology I've always used is as follows:
6 point - Rollbar, pretty standard
8 point - Rollbar, but with two extra supports triangulated from where the main hoop meets harness bar to the tunnel (somtimes other places, but it's just generally where most run them)
10 point - Cage, 8 point with a halo and forward bars.
BrokeEF... An 8 point made in the way you describe is not always legal to 8.5.... If the main hoop is welded to plates on the floor (most unibody cars) instead of the frame you need the bars that upgrade a 6 point to an 8 point in my above scheme.
