Default 12" Wheels in True 10.5 Tires!! Updated 12" narrowed Racecraft 9" rearend

Right now i'm using 10"*15" wheels with True 10.5 tires, last week some of the racers told me that a 12" wheels with the same tires will get me better traction and better stability in high speed, what do you guys think?

i already placed an order for 10" *15" (5*4.75) 5" BS double bead-loc Alumastar, but i will change it to 12" if it helps.

A wider wheel does help to an extent. Just make sure if you run a class where tire measurement is a concern to be careful, as the larger wheel can "spread" the tire too much to make it a DQ.

What backspace did you go with, and how much is the rear narrowed? Did you pull the tires in the wheel well any?

I'm about to pull the trigger on my wheels this weekend.

it's a 3" narrowed (from each side) fab. mild steel 9" , 4" BS for the new 12" wheels (true 10.5), and i think with this combo the tires will stay in it's stock location

I am guessing this car is minitubed? Either way you should post pics once you put the wheels on. should look great.

so you ordered a 12" wide wheel with a 4" backspace
and your rear is narrowed 3" each side?
if so, that is way off. that rim is going to stick out alot.

Racecraft is doing the rearend and i will buy the Wheels also from them, that's what they've told me when i called to changed the wheels to 12", but i think i'll call them again just to make sure what exactly the final BS would be.

with a 12" wheel and 4" backspace you are going to need it narrowed 4.5" to 5" each side.

i understand what you are saying steve. that will put the oustside of the rim in the stock location. but with 6.5" backspace and 3" cut rear, good chance you are going to run into the lca's, even if they are offset. my rear in my trans am was cut 3" each side and i had a 15x10 with 5.5 backspace. tire was 1/4" from wolfe offset lca's. plus putting it on a 12" wheel will give it even more section width. the racecraft offset lca's come with an even shorter inside bushing to move it in a bit more than the wolfe ones but i still dont think it would be enough.

well you like your tires big and tucked in Phil, so you're always in danger of hitting the control arms.

my car runs 6.5 backspacing and is a thirdgen width which is 2" narrower per side than 4th gen rears and I have over 1" clearance between the LCA and the rim. This is double rod ended BBRC lcas, but you could move the spacers further to the inside still to create a little more clearance as well.

im pretty sure a 3rd gen rear is not that much shorter than a 4th gen. i could be wrong though.

edit* you were right, it is a hair shy of 2". there was room between rim and lca but my tire was real close. plus with a wider rim it is going to stretch the tire even wider and give it even more section width. i will post the pics of mine tomorrow.
