Default Weight Mods...What You Think?

I had some ideas to remove some weight from the car and gain some hp up top. since my car has become less of a dd I was think of dropping some weight from it to see if I would get any real gains from it. First I was thinking of going with 23.5in long 3" dynomax bullet mufflers straight from the header collector with turndowns. This would mean zero backpressure from the exhaust and some free ponies up top in the power band but it would also mean a delete of the big 3" xpipe, the over axle muffler pipping and mufflers. The Hooker mufflers I have are at least 30-40lbs each. The mufflers plus all the pipping I figure should mean 80-100lbs. Also my ac comp went out a while ago, I have to remove it any way to reapir or replace it so why not just keep it off for now? Its been really cold and I went without it this past summer anyway plus its what, 30-40lbs? Im also looking at some Sparco and Hunsaker racing seats that should be lighter than the stockers. So, what do you guys think? I drag race and track the car but Ive been setting it more for HPDE and autocrossing. Also lets jsut say that loudness and no ac are not an issue for me already. That car is high compression with a big cam so Im use to noise. So would I be able to notice 150-200lbs off the car and the more free flowing exhaust? Btw, I shouldnt see any real "torque loss" down low with the new exhaust. The length of the headers (32in primary) should provide the necessary exhaust scavenging effect and no back pressure is always good. Also I weighed the car in at 3220lbs as is.

As long as your track/venue doesn't have a decibel limit, I don't see the issue as long as you don't have clearance problems.

Lower weight will help in all aspects especially for road racing/auto-x. Less mass means less force needed to do the same job as before. That means your engine, trans, suspension and brakes aren't having to work as hard to pull off the same times. Granted that you're also good and consistent behind the wheel.

Yeah I'd definitely lighten the car

Also by removing the Ac condenser from in front of the Radiator

My car runs much cooler ,

A lighter car accelerates quicker, Transitions faster, and stops quicker

well at least I think Im a good driver. lol. The bullet mufflers should tuck in nice and my local track says mufflers only without a decibel max. I hope Im ok.

Good idea about the condenser. Thnx. LS1s run on the warm side as it is.

Ditch it. Ya won't see any adverse effects from what you want to do. Only thing I would do.. is put a turndown at the end of the muffler, just to help keep the bottom of the car clean.

I ran cheapie summit 18"bullets with turndowns straight off the headers on mine. It was never an issue.

I dont see any mufflers weighing 30-40lbs though.

I thought of those but theyre louvered which is actually restrictive because it bounces around the exhaust creating back pressure. The dynomax ones are perforated with small holes which flow a lot better.

The Hooker Header mufflers do weigh that much each. They flow good and sound good but they are heavy. I'll weigh them after I remove them.

I have a Stainless Steel Corsa and between the Muffler, Piping, and Tips, I can certainly tell you its at least 30 pounds, possibly more. JL been trying to get me to ditch it. Not quite yet....

Nice man. Mine should look the same but with 23.5in bullets. I was looking at the Summit turndowns and they look nice.

Its an EGT. Exhaust gas temp. You monitor exhaust temps which also tell you how hot your combustion chambers are so you can avoid detonation. Very common on fi cars.

I'm somewhat surprised to see EGT's like that in a header that small... usually, when you go to an egt/cyl setup like that, you're making in the 1000+ hp range, and certainly in a place that you'd benefit greatly by putting a set of larger primary headers on..

Picture may be a little deceiving but they are small... 1-7/8-2" stepped 3-1/2" collectors but its a small cube engine..

I have a set of 1 7/8 sepped to 2 inch, and they don't look like that.... or maybe I haven't looked at them in a while...

That's big enough for anything under 427 though I would think.
