Default Anyone else running NMCA?

Been kicking around the idea of running NMCA in the Late Model EFI class. Thinking 12.00 index. Any advise from anyone that has run this before? What should I expect?

I ran the whole circuit last year. Are you thinking of running the full circuit?

The LM/EFI racers a good bunch as are the rest of the folks that run NMCA. Everybody looks out for everybody else.

Have you been to any of their race's either as a spectator or racer?

I echo Edgar's comments. The organization and friendly racer atmosphere is why I keep going back!

We hosted a race at zMax this year. It was run smoothly. Very little spectator turnout though. I would have liked to run this coming season but I don't think they are coming back.

I have not been to any of their races. It took me a good part of last season just to get the car sorted out. I'd be interested in running the full circuit, except the Cali race, wayyyyy too far out for me to reasonably travel. Quick question while you're in here, can I run two classes at one event? I'd be doing OC and LSX Rumble.

Might be worth travelling a bit. Road trips are always fun!

How did you do in OC? I've done some bracket and index racing, but never a full season anywhere. What kind of package do you have to put together to be competitive? Are .020 lights or better going to be needed? What's the difference between an .400 and .500 pro tree?

Yeah usually when i refer to the full circuit, as most, we are talking the 7 points races.

You have already hit my biggest sticking point with the organization and that is that the NMCA will not allow you to run an NMCA class like OC or EFI and an LSX class or any other class. The deal is if you are running for points, you are not allowed to enter another class as that would lead to additional passes the other points competitors would have or even have the opportunity to have like a mustang cannot run in LSX. You also cannot run OC and EFI, one class if you are competing for an NMCA title. I can understand why they do this, just wish it wasn't so.

Open Comp is a tough class. They qualify by reaction time and reaction times are GOOD in that class.

NMCA post all the qualifying and elimination results on their website. You can do some serious research over there to get a feel. Look under the section for each race to find qualifying and eliminations

Some of last years results might be removed for the 2011 events. Keep in mind you claim your best five races for your points total (except the LSX stuff since there is only four). You can choose to only run five and that's it, and there have been NMCA champions that only ran five. You do get bonus points for running six or all seven events (remember Texas and California are not points earning events).

I haven't ever been able to make every race so I haven't been competitive points wise. The class bases it's ladder off reaction times with the top qualifiers always in the .005 area! It's a fun class for sure. Not to sound like a smart *** but the difference in the tree is 1/10th of a second, unless they changed it for 2011 we used a .500 pro tree last year. They use handicapped starts so the two cars will leave at different times based on their dial and you race to the finish line.

lol, well I knew it was a one tenth difference. I meant as far as the actual light progression. So all lights on for .500 second. I'll have to find an online reaction time tester that works with that setup since I've only ever raced off a .500 Sportsman tree or a .400 Pro tree.

My local series uses a .400 pro tree, when I run at NMCA races it makes me feel like I'm killing the tree. Your correct all 3 amber bulbs on for .500 then green. You make 3 qualifying passes and they subtract 1/10 from your fastest pass and that becomes your index for the weekend. ex. 11.50/ 11.55/ 11.60 your index for the weekend becomes 11.40. your placement on the ladder is based off you best reaction time with .000 as perfect. If there are more than 32 cars you run whoever you line up with till it's down to 32 cars then they will pair you up from the reaction time ladder. What makes it interesting is often qualifying and eliminations are stretched out over 2-3 days so weather and track conditions are different from qualifying to eliminations. So you want to hold back enough to pick up 1/10 for eliminations but not so much your gonna break out! If both cars break out the one who broke out the least moves on (no double breakouts). Hope this helps!

Good open comp description! Letting go on a pro tree can be addicting...
