Default Roll Cage questions

I am looking to build a cage for my camaro... just a standard 12 point cage...

I am just wondering how much tubing i will need to buy... I had origanly thought that i could get 5 sticks (100ft) and be fine, but i feel like that is a good bit of over kill

so what i am looking for is, When you did your cage, how much did you use?

Overkill is a good thing. You won't be able to use every inch of every tube. Better to have to much than not enough. You can always use the extra for other stuff. Unless you are just on a super tight budget.

Maybe someone else will chime in that has built there own from scratch.

The comp eng kit is pretty cheap, and would be a good base if you want to go that way. You won't have to worry about the main hoop, it comes premade

Buy a Wolfe kit. Has everything you need, and can be pre-notched to fit for easy installation. He has a few different options, too. Give me a call if you're interested. 225-673-3533

Unless you have built quite a few main hoops (and everyone including professionals has their bad days) you may have to make a second. Getting all of the bends in the a pillar bars right the first time is a challenge for these cars sometimes. I could go on and on, but if you are building this from scratch buy 100 ft.

No offense, but seeing as how you are asking this question I am going to say this is your first or one of the first ones you have done. Everyone makes mistakes, remember that and take that into account!

Well I have a tubing bender, welders, and an account with an account with a local steel place. Plus with doing it myself adds to the personal effect. I was looking for a general idea of how much steel I need to buy. I just don't want to get 100ft and only use 50-60ft. I am going to take some measurements this evening and see what I come up with.

60 feet should be more than enough to do a 8.50 cage, but if you don't have experience bending then I would just get 80. keep in mind it doesn't all have to be 1 5/8 tubing to pass cert.
