Default wrapping headers?

I have a bolt on z28 and im looking to get every ounce outta it....tony mamo fast 102 is going to be installed along with swapping to 1 7/8 headers. Just wondering how much weight header wrap would add...maybe 2lbs. ? and also if it would be worth ANYthing at all....i can see it giving lower underhood temps and maybe better scavanging....POST up some opinions !

Try it, but I bet it doesn't do a thing for ya... I've tried it, didn't make any difference at all with my car... several other people I know, same deal. Only thing it did, was take some $ out of their pockets, and aggravate the hell out of them trying to get the **** to stay in place LOL.

Save yourself the headache IMO.

wrap will hasten their demise...
Many header mfgrs don't warranty their products that have been wrapped...For a reason.
Over heating/ causing cracks.
Rust from water retention.

Not that its a "cure all" but if they are rusty and crappy looking, consider sending them out for ceramic coating. Again there is a shelf life and depending where the car is parked will lengthen or shorten it's life but if the metal is still mostly in good shape that is an option.

I had ceramic coated Jet hot headers and sent them back and looked pretty good, just some dimples from the rust but IMO much better then wrapping for the above mentioned reasons. Also may actually be a little better @ heat control. IMO if you ever have wires burning, consider Earls Flame Guard.

Mine are unwrapped stainless, and I have no underhood temp problem. Header wrap really won't do much for you from a drag racing standpoint.

N/A car really do not see an issue, IMO at most Forced Induction may see a benefit, esp on a street application. Also carb cars that suffer from heat soak may see a benefit as well.

Agreed, also they tend to rust faster.
My Hookers were JetHot coated, the collectors rusted in no time, the primaries are still nice after 5 years.
