I would do a stall and skip the gears. You should avoid od under power

But i have a stock tranny and tranny guy is atleast a month backed up but when he does do it he's gonna put everything in it a Corvette servo upgrade pump, 13 red racing clutch pack and a bunch of other. Also doesn't a stall only help on launch? I know its important but in thinking tires and gears would help more than a stall. But idk I'm new to this so any help is appreciated

A stall will help out way more then gears will. 4.10 gears on a 26" tire is gonna wanna go into OD on the spray. Let that stock trans go into OD with the nitrous on and youll be doing a trans shortly after. I wouldnt waste my money on 4.10s with a A4. What gears does your car have in it now?

It's my understanding that it's best to keep the car in OD when racing. Also, with stock tuning the car will not shift into OD at WOT.

First off. I would leave it in D or 3rd to race. With a built tranny I shift into OD at full throttle on the street and at the track.

If you have a stock tranny and do it. The tranny won't last. If you have a stock rear and add 4.10's the rear end won't last. Period! They both will break.

Now if you take care of both of those problems, then you won't have to worry about it. Running 4.10's and an A4 yes you will run out of gear once you hit the mid 10's on spray. Ask me how I know Running NA the 4.10's will be just right for a built motor spinning it to 6700 - 7000.

A stock motor 3.42,s or 3.73's would be better. Like posted above a TC would be money better spent.

Aww man I was really looking forward to gears. I guess there's better things I can do for now. And I read that its a 50/50 chance stock tranny will hold up with a stall is this true

Once you get a stall you will forget all about gears.

Depends on how many miles are on the trans and how well it was maintained. If it was well maintained and you put a big aftermarket trans cooler on it will last alot longer.

stall and transmission first....your looking at a half of a second with a good stall/tranny/cooler combo....car will be faster in all areas not just the launch.....ss4000 here 50 went from 1.94 to 1.54....ET wetn from 12.6 to 11.7....but i did add suspension and a tune and underdrive pully and take some weight out with that change...

I'm another vote for a stall. Get one in the 2800-3000 range so its still street able and call it a day.

i would definately go with a stall first. i have a stock trans and have put atleast 120 passes on it with et streets. just be sure to add a trans cooler as a stall will create more heat in the trans.

Is a used stall a good idea?

Save up for a built transmission first. If not then you'll be pulling it back out soon for a new transmission anyway.

I learned that the hard way at about 112,xxx miles on my old car. It never overheated since I had a big enough cooler.

You be better off calling up Performabuilt (Or another sponsor) for a NEW transmission and converter and will end up spending less in the long run.

I went through a stock transmission and two used converters before I finally went to a new setup and couldn't have been happier. By the time you spend that money on used stuff WITHOUT a warranty you'll come out ahead buying it new and have a full year warranty from Performabuilt (If I recall correctly) on the transmission and converter package.
