He runs tubes all the time and it just went through the tire only.

How many passes on the tires? If they are new then just having 1 new tire shouldn't be an issue just make sure this new one has a smaller rollout so you can stretch it to match the old one.
Even putting a patch on the inside wouldn't guarantee it'd stay together. All it'd take would the patch being on the right side of the tire where it wrinkles and tears the glue off. Not worth the risk.

i ran a slick with 3 patches in it w/o tube for a full season it was fine, just check the pressure a few times more then normal. i've seen people get threw a race with a plug in the slick outa sheer had to moment
