Default 300 # springs up front help setting compression

My strange 300# springs will be here tomorrow along with my new S 5071 front shocks. How much should I compress them to start out? It is a stock weight 01' with a LQ9 Block.

So it is a 14" spring so you say start by compressing it 7" ?

I would start with the coilover adjuster at least halfway up the threads. Example if the shock has 60 threads mark it at 30 and run it up that far to start. And good luck some of those can be a workout.

Ok cool good point. If I am still spinning off the line should I tighten it more or loosen them (the front springs) ?

You adjust the srpings for ride heights.

What about the strange SA front shocks I think I read on here to start off at setting #3 does that sound like a good starting point? Again would. I go up or down numerically to try and stop wheelspin and increase weight transfer?

You'll have to put it on some scales to get it right, adjusting them up and down isn't JUST for ride height. You'll be throwing weight everywhere, unless your not worried about hooking at the track and having the thing dart around.

I ran 300lb springs on mine but it was 3,458lbs with me in it. I can't remember exactly where we sat mine, it's been a while.

I wouldn't EVER recommend setting the shocks on 0, it could possibly damage them. I usually ran 3 and 4 or in that area. Your car may like something completely different though.

You set the car ride heights first, get them roughed in and then yes on scales you can fine tune for proper weight. You can only adjust soo much with just adjustable front springs in these cars. You are trying to get even ride height across the front with driver weight yet put roughly 10lbs more weight on the right rear over the left rear. So, unless you are scaling the car right now and getting it 100% diialed in the only thing you can worry about is getting the front ride heights level with you in the car across the front.

As far as your ride heights that is where ever you wan tthe car sitting. Do you want flat from front to rear or do you want some rake in the car?

But to answer your question before you let the jack down and get it stuck under the car I would crank atleast the spring adjuster half way up and then start from there. Also, when setting your ride height or roughing it in. Everytime you lift the car to adjust the spring up or down be sure to roll the car forward and backward a couple of times to get the suspension to unbind from being left down on the jack, then measure your ride heights.

OK thanks Busa I really appreciate your help.

I still don't know what to set the dial on these SA front shocks at they don't have numbers so I don't know where people were getting 3 or 4 from. Is all the way turned in to the right # 1 ? Or is that considered 0 or 4 or what?
