Default Dashboard weight mod

Ok, I have been doing weight mods here lately and got around to take my dashboard out. I have taken the passenger side airbag out and the metal frame that was on the dashboard itself. My question is is it necessary to put the metal frame back on the dashboard? It is pretty sturdy without it. I actually like how much just the dash itself weighs. Really light. thanks

The bottom metal bar is needed but the actual airbag "frame" isnt needed to install the dash

you can cut it out. just cut the ends off so it holds the bottom of the dash to the car.
You can get rid of 4-5 lbs according to other people here. I havn;t done it yet but have studied up on it so when its time to do its done.

if you want to keep your glove box you need to keep the bottom bar intact.

I took the bar out and kept my glove box. If I remember correctly the three screws screw into the hinge on the glove box. When the bar is gone there is nothing to screw into. I just used 3 zipties and put them thru the holes on the hinge and on the dash and pulled them tight. The glove box still works like normal.

I put my dash back in today and didn't reuse the metal frame. I used 2 self tappers in the corners to keep it from sagging. Works great, I'm building my car for the track, so I dont need a glove box,

ya lower dash bar is like 6.5. cut the ends off and just run it form the studs of the kick panel firewall area with the nut on them. and the end 7mm bolt to the dash. Cutting the whole middle out saves like 5, 5.5 pounds.
glove box you can out a alum bar for the hinge to bolt to.

\\looked for pics but only found the 1st time I heard of doing it

I've been driving around like this for half a yr now, absolutely no problems with the dash being flimsy, it's got enough support all around.
