Default Best way to launch?

I'm 16 and have been driving my manual 98 ws6 for around nine months. It's practically stock, I have flow masters, and a cutout with no catalytic converter, and some free mods done with the intake. I hardly race from a stop because I always either fall flat on my face or launch too hard and burn up the tires. Anyway, I'm supposed to be taking on my brother's supercharged integra this friday with just a set of worn street radials. Any tips on what RPM i should b launching at? How long of a burnout, and what gear it should be in?

I don't want to lose to a four cylinder .

As for what gear... I'm going to take a guess and say 1st...
rpm depends on how worn out they are. I'd do a couple test launches before going to race your bro and see where it launches best at. I'd start at 2500 and you might have to slip the clutch a little if they just spin too easily.

There's quite a few threads on here on launching, the search button towards the top should give you all the pages you care to read about

The car's just hit 100k and I think the clutch is starting to wear. When I shift fast (not even power shifting) my clutch petal engages the clutch before it would normally. It's odd. I don't know exactly how to check my clutch fluid either. I need to pick up a book this weekend. Anyway, thanks for the help.

Oh, and the question asking which gear should I be in was regarding the burnout.. not the actual launch.. Just to clarify.

You only need a quick once over over the tires to get the dirt and dust off the wheels, dont sit and roast them. 1st or second will be fine, just dont hit the limiter (much easier to hit in 1st).

When you see those long burnouts at the drag strip, those cars usually have slicks or drag radials (well people with street tires do it too, but its not that effective), most of the time 2nd gear is best so you have some speed to work with, without hitting the limiter.

Be careful.

Thank you, I appreciate it. I was practicing launching earlier today and I think I'm just gonna roll off the line on my first run and see where it gets me. After the control run I'll start to release the clutch a little quicker. I just wish I had a fresh set of drag radials but who's got the money.

Tell that to my best friend. He just turned 17 and he's already gone through a c5, and now he drives a c6, while still having a daily aside from that.
Rich asians...

He was pissed off yesterday when I beat him twice in my grocery getter. Apparently somebody didn't know how to use the paddle shifter. Hehe

I guess he's already assimilated to lazy american driving. Nonetheless, I'd take his C6 in a heart beat, although when he gave me a ride, it really didn't seem to have as much power as my car does, plus when him and I raced, both times, I left him once I chirped second. I thought C6's were running 12s out of the box, right?? Well the best my car has ever turned is a 13.2 O.o?? I wasn't very impressed.

Well, based on what you've posted, even if his C6 is a stock LS2 it still has more power than your setup.

Again, he has more power, and also less weight. Unless something is wrong with the car, or his driving, or a total lack of traction, it is in fact faster than your 13.2 car (both in terms of ET and trap speed).

I figured he'd leave me in the dust. I guess he's just shifting too early.

Obviously not useful for this race, but 4.10s made my car 10 times easier to launch on street tires. It allowed me to roll out from 1500 rpm's or so and still pull 2.00 sixty fts. Had I been able to launch harder (Wheel hop) I could have went better than that on cheap street tires. Definitely a worthwhile mod if you can spring for it. However if you want to beat this guy, just slip your clutch like its stolen. 4K slip will make for a pretty good launch lol.

Thanks Will, I've been practicing lately, although not with a burn out. I live in florida and it tends to rain here every single friday. -.- Hopefully I'll be able to race my brother soon, however the weather here is bipolar.

I've raced before when I first got the car and I turned a 14.00 at 102. However that's with a 2.2 60ft and combine that with an inexperienced driver (Since it was my first time ever taking the car past 4000Rpm so obviously my timing was horrible) and shifting so slow that it gives you time to adjust your *****, and it's not surprising that car didn't turn a 13. I'm hoping i'll at least turn a 13.3 with a decent little launch and some powershifting. Yeah, I'd love to get my hands on some 4.10s. I just don't have ..... a job. lol.
